Any Self Contained MS teachers out there. Do you have students who are more behavioral than anything else. I am struggling to provide support to some of my students because of the behaviors of others in the classroom.

I don’t have a self contained room instead my students with behavior problems, including ODD students are in my Learning Center/Resource Room. We use the Zones of Regulation supplemented by a rewards system established by our school counselor. I’m not keen on our rewards system as I see it builds in a dependency on external systems however as our counselor stated we work for a pay check - students earn stars for rewards such as playing a game (generally educational), computer time, sensory room time, etc.

Intervention central has a ton of behavioral interventions! I’ve never used any personally but I go there for academic interventions all the time! It may be worth looking at!

Hi Tracy. I have the same issue. I firmly explain behaviors and habits of successful students. Or I’ll even do a lesson on it.

Good luck! Keep us posted

I use ClassDojo to give students points paired with specific verbal praise throughout the entire day so they know what they’re doing well. The behaviors in my class are much lower since implementing this strategy a few years ago.

Since I posted this I have switched jobs to a kindergarten Co-teaching position. The behaviors are fewer though I am working on some behavioral goals and the environment is more fun!

What are some things that can enhance student learning in the Blended Learning classroom model?

Split classes take away joy! We have 6-7 classes at each grade level and they split 1-2 into the remaining 5 so we can have a 5 day schedule. Big classes plus the classroom culture homeroom teachers work so hard to achieve are ruined. Advice? (Plus we are told to "not be negative" by admin.)

Got this little gem as part of a bundle for my classroom. Absolutely delightful! Set in 1946 in Chicago, Cline-Ransome does a magical job of describing how a young boy struggles with death, moving, bullying, and learning of his own heritage. I can’t wait to share this with my students!

Organization is critical for classroom management. Try assembling units into Google Slides with links to ppts, activities, etc. Color code them according to the rainbow: Unit 1 red, Unit 2 orange etc. It takes a minute at first but the payoff is a one click upload for next year! PS I use the same color code system with felt tip pens to grade my classes: 1st hr red, 2nd hr orange etc.

Hello Teachers! I hope all of you are doing well to the start to the new school year. I’d like to ask those of you who are California special education teachers a question. IEPs service minutes lunch snd breaks being included in daily minutes.
64,800 min. are required number of service minutes per year( for grades 9-12), you divide that by 180 ( 180 school days) = 360. In those 360 minutes of their day ;lunch & break is included correct? I mean some students have that as goals in there IEP. Help

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows of or has curriculum for students in a Study Skills class?

I have been given three sections of Study Skills with 15-20 students in each.
I have always taught SDC, but this year my district said that we can do that now. When I got my credential I was not allowed to teach Resource classes unless I took classes and received the Resource Certificate. Does anyone know if this is legal?

I received my credentials in 1996/1997 and the other in 1998
