Yes. Been dealing with PCOS since I was 15. Have had very irregular periods and also have a high bmi which I haven't been able to change with change in lifestyle (healthy eating and exercise). I'm 5'4" and I weigh around 175 lbs. I was on birth control pills for my pcos for the past 3 years and got off it in march. We wanted to start trying and went to my new ob gyn. He recommended that I try to lose weight while on metformin and try naturally for 6 months before we started exploring other options. I was working towards it through intermittent fasting and lots of cardio. My last period was in May and we were trying since March. All pregnancy tests between may and July came back negative so I stopped taking them cos it was such a disappointment. Turns out, we were successful right around mid July even though I hadn't had my period for two months before that. I'm at 10 weeks right now and hearing the heartbeat was unbelievable. They had to date the baby based on the scan measurements as my period was so irregular that it would put me much further along than I really am. Happy to answer any questions you may have 😊
I also have PCOS and have gotten pregnant 2x-currently 16 weeks with my second. With my first, I got pregnant right after going off of birth control after being on it for 4 years-but it was a long cycle, and they had to use my ultrasound scan to come up with the due date. I was 34, 5’4 and 175. I also did not know at the time that I had PCOS. I was diagnosed with PCOS while trying for my second. We had 6 months of trying and very inconsistent cycle lengths. I also had a ton of trouble losing the baby weight from my first and was 190. My regular OB prescribed me 2 doses of 10 days of progesterone to try and jump start my period/ovulation and on the second try I was able to get pregnant. I also had a consult with a specialist and the plan was to put me on metformin to try and help with weight loss.
I am 36. Been struggling with PCOS since teenage. Right now 37 wks pregnant. Somethings that helped me:
- get your diet in order. Eat fresh, low carb, vegetarian & organic diet, especially the dairy needs to be organic if you’re in the US. Hormones and antibiotics really mess with your body otherwise. This helped in regulating my cycles naturally. If you’re in for it, the longevity diet can help too. It’s incredible how your body can repair itself if you let it.
- do not starve yourself. Fasting messed with my cycles.
- moderate exercise and meditation
- take regular mental days off from work. Stress can really put a strain on your hormones.
My husband and I cleaned out our acts 2-3 months before trying and luckily I could conceive in the first try itself. Remember, his health can impact your chances of conception too.
Worse comes to worse, clomid is not that bad. Got diagnosed with PCOS from ultrasound when first trying to have kids. Metformin didn't regulate my cycle (always 40+ days all my life) so took clomid and was pregnant the 2nd month taking it. Super painless for me and now have a healthy 4 month old!
I had PCOS and I got pregnant on the first cycle of Clomid for my first and with Metformin on my second.
Low carb diet helps with PCOS as does thyroid medication (I had borderline hypothyroidism too)
