Any success stories of setting boundaries while pregnant? I am working 70+ hours a week and routinely taking nighttime calls, etc. I’m so exhausted and feel like I am running myself down. Just got out of first trimester. Is it kosher to just be like “hey, I’m not working more than 50 hour weeks, period”?

I think it’s less about a hard limit on hours per week than it is about being ruthless with your priorities every single day. Does this REALLY need to be done today? If so, then it needs to be done by x time (6pm , 7pm , whatever). If that can’t happen, then it’s because something else needs to be deprioritized, and it’s not you. It’s good practice for later. Babies and toddlers are NOT okay when food or nap time schedules move around.

I don’t mean this harshly and I understand the pressure to work a lot, but also want to gently suggest that as a Partner you should definitely try to set better boundaries because everyone else looks to the Partners. Anything you can do to balance better now helps you, future you, and all teams and people who work for you and for your company. Talk about setting these boundaries so people fee they can do it too and once your baby arrives you will appreciate having lain the groundwork because it’s not sustainable with a child either.

You don’t need to declare this. You just need to find what works for you and do it. If you tell people, “I’m only working 50 hours a week and completely unavailable from 10p-8a.” you might get push back or side eye, even though it’s completely reasonable. Instead, know what your boundaries are and keep them. No one will respect your boundaries if you don’t. If you need to be in bed by 8:00pm, but you accept a call that goes until 8:30, that’s on you. You need to be clear when people try to push your boundaries that you’re simply unavailable or have a conflict. Or you don’t have the bandwidth, etc. Learn to prioritize the important meetings and make time for them during normal hours. Know when your most productive times are for answering emails or doing actual work and protect those times from meetings. Automate your inbox so junk emails get sorted/deleted/immediately. You’ll have even less time/flexibility when you have a baby and childcare time deadlines, so it’s good to learn how to do this effectively and politically now.

Timeboxing works for me. I usually find I’m not or have gotten inefficient, and the feeling of starting to fall behind after mandatory 6 pm stop makes me increase my efficiency the following days. It drives discipline. I would try this for a week or two before making blanket declarations about hours worked. It may be you have just too much on your plate, but this will also help you get an idea of how much too much and what tasks or areas are the problem ones you need help with. If your problem is calls then you may need to say something though about not taking them outside of X hours. Do your best to propose new times on ones that you can influence.

How do you divide your time between your kids? My second is an extra needy and demanding, high spirited kid. My first is laidback and easy going. I always feel like the eldest gets the short end of the stick and never gets enough of my attention even tho she’s always been more attached to me than my husband. She never gets one-on-one time with me as it is since her sister (now 2) is still super glued to my side. Any suggestions for juggling this? Or to ease the mom guilt?

18 weeks pregnant (1st time) and have always been an active/fit person workingout 5x/wk cardio/treadmill and some weight lifting. I've toned down my workout routine since I found out I'm preg as I got 2 v diff advice from the NP I first saw then the OB/GYN herself. NP warned of exercising as this should not be my priority now (which I agree) he warned from any running/or weight lift (were talking 40-70 lbs). Ob was so flexible about it and said I can maintain my routine as long as not exhausted.

Weddings! Those planning or just got done planning. How soon did you cry and say F it? It’s getting expensive. I don’t want to spend the money for just 1 day. I’m super happy going to the court house. But being my parents only child, I feel like I owe them a wedding. I’m tired of everyone having an opinion- location, date wise, how fast we’re doing it. I don’t know much longer I can take with all of this. I just want to be with my person, could careless about anything else.
