Any suggestions for apps/technology that are must-haves for a new, solo GC? I'm being tasked with spearheading a big M&A project (in addition to managing all other legal affairs) and will need all the help I can get to stay on track since I do not have an assistant. I’ve been on the bench with J1 for about 3 months. I was worried that because I couldn’t find another project, I would get laid off so I found J2, which pays more, is very meeting heavy, but I really like. I’ve kept J1 because I’m still on the bench doing absolutely nothing and getting paid. Thinking about looking for a role on a project with J1 that’s not along my career path but will allow for me to do work with no calls so that I can manage both jobs. Does anyone have experience or advice?

Passed on promo due to CPA. Now I am significantly below market and I know that my firm is not going to give me a 30-40% increase in compensation when I am promoted. How does one do basic diligence on a Chinese contract manufacturer? How do I verify what they are representing is true? It’s a big company but apparently has several subs of unknown stability or complexity that actually contract for services?

Made it to Amazon last round, and rejected. All I got was an email from the recruiter saying they didn't move forward. My company (a renewable energy developer) is being acquired by a much larger energy company in a platform deal. I'm currently part of a 3 person legal team, with each attorney supporting different parts of the business, and having different areas of expertise. Anyone have any insight into the impact/fallout of these types of deals on the acquired company's legal department? I'm being told everything will be the same (but with better benefits), but who knows!

When negotiating salary, what is a reasonable ask in terms of increase? I am really hoping to be about 14% higher.

Just curious, for others who transitioned in house from a firm, when did you fully realize/appreciate the benefits of your transition? I just put in my two weeks to go to an AM 100 law firm to work in a niche practice area. I've never worked in a firm before. I started of doing compliance (non-attorney role) and then went in-house (acting GC for medium size company got a year). Any advice for someone who never had firm experience? If you went back to a firm what do you think you would have to prepare for? (Besides billiable hours and no life. ) Also, fwiw, I graduate in 2018.

Co-Working Space Agreements - team is thinking about using some co-working space in a new market (similar to we work and Regus). Got the agreement today and it isn’t really a license, more like completely one sided terms and conditions not in our favor. No indemnification, insurance, etc. no guaranty of security or that no one else can access our private office (We aren’t looking for just a desk, but a private office suite). Has anyone had luck negotiating the terms of these agreements?

I started my first in-house role about 4 months ago and I don’t think it’s the right fit. I love the no billable hours aspect, but otherwise I miss the structure of being at a firm. How long do you think I should try to stick this out before I move on? I want to give the job a real shot - and i know the transition to in-house can be jarring…but I also don’t want to spend too much time in a job that is a wrong fit.
