Ugh, how do I explain to my employer that making the salary teamwork 60 or more hours a week without providing overtime compensation is opening us to a major lawsuit? Because saying it in those words doesn’t work.
If this guy were a teacher, he'd turn his chair around and really talk to us on our level...man http://adage.com/article/agency-news/bad-boy/310179/
Anyone one here went or is going to Texas Women’s University ? That went through their MBA program.
How difficult is it to find people in minorities who are interested in being police officers? Do departments just have a harder time recruiting them, or is it harder to get them to stay if they feel it hard to fit in with their colleagues?
Can anyone refer me in a company.

I’ve seen a ton on fishbowl about compensation for Alvarez & Marsal’s FDD line of service, what about disputes & investigations? Anyone know how much $ or what % of collected billables a senior associate would get?
Hi fishes..I have joining in 1st week of December. However, due to some event I would like to join in the 2nd week. What is a more suitable approach for JPMC teams including HR? A) Change the joining date B) Keep the joining date same and take leave for a week.
Are there any firms trying to up their game and compete with the Deloitte Human Capital behemoth? EY, KPMG, and PWC’s HC offerings just seem pathetic. I have heard PWC is trying something new.
Any insights on Futurebrand in the UK and the strategy work they engage with? (Quality/type of work/team/network, etc?)
Can someone refer me for the job mentioned in the below screenshot. It would be great if anyone could help me out.
Thinking about jumping from a Havas agency to an Omnicom one. Would I just be swapping one corporate overlord for another? Should I just try to go an independent shop (if any exist anymore)?

Current bankruptcy clerk in a non-major market in the northeast. My term ends in April of next year and I’m starting to think about my next move. I follow the economy closely and know the general expectation is things will start to slow down/bankruptcies pick up again soon but I still don’t see many BK positions posted yet. I’m hoping to move back to Chicago and I was wondering if anyone in BL (Chicago or otherwise) have any insight into associate hiring in the next 8-12 months in RX/BK groups.
Do you count Sundays as a weekday? Somehow I always end up with an ASAP billable work. Not complaining, just making observations.
Asking for a friend, may have used the C word over a text that text is now being produced in litigation. Opposing side is threatening to refer it to the Bar. Does anyone think they will care?
Curious about demand for US-trained lawyers in the UK. Anyone have any insight on making the move? What practice areas/seniority levels are in demand, best ways to go about finding openings, etc?
How many bonuses come around in a year at the average law firm? Number of occurrences more importantly, but y’all can provide amount too if you like
I have practiced law for several years and still struggle with the feast-or-famine nature of my practice. (Sudden rush of client outreach, many emergencies, then … nothing). A famine week might be 3-4 billable hours/day. My practice area does not have a predictable annual cycle, like “year end” or “tax day.” Any tips from other attorneys for how to recognize, predict, and/or even out these periods?
Is going in house at the present moment for a large oil & gas company not the best idea?
I have been reading posts from newer associates about bad things partners have done or said to them and I think it could be fun for some of us more senior lawyers in the bowl to tell stories of mean things partners did or said to us when we were new associates. Hopefully it stays mostly light and not horrible things.
Is it normal to be threatened to be fired after making mistakes that you had no idea were mistakes in the first place?
I’m a junior litigation associate at a small firm, and the managing partner says things like “you aren’t providing value to the firm” or “you’re being paid to avoid mistakes like these” when I make mistakes due to, what I believe, to be a lack of guidance and instruction. As in, they could be easily avoided with a “please keep in mind X” or something like that. Thoughts?
Raise your hand if you have to work over the weekend (even though the juniors under you don’t have to)?! ✋
How does everyone else’s firm track billable hours? My firm only gives billable credit for the hours that go out on a bill to the client. Anyone else’s firm do this?
What’s the best way to handle being let go by a firm as a 1st year transactional associate?
I’m interested in taking on a Pro Bono case through a nonprofit org, so should I disclose that I’m taking the case to my current employer (in house)? The case has no overlap with the field my company is in and I’ll be doing the work off the clock.
Looking for some summer reading material. Wanted to see if anyone had suggestions for books on litigation and or business/ money investments.
Does anyone “keep” emails and documents prepared over the weekend to send on Monday instead? I don’t want to be appear over-eager and nobody’s chasing me for these. I just try to do as much as I can over the weekend so that I’m not rushing for time on the weekdays. Am I weird?
Anyone else take the bar exam after practicing for a while? I took another state bar this past July and just remembered that I get my results tomorrow. Now I’m all distracted and worried I failed. Sometimes I really hate our profession 🙄
Can’t beat billing in a bubble bath.
Had my annual review earlier today and I’m not happy with the raise and bonus offered. Aside from the managing partner, there were several other non-equity partners in the room and I didn’t feel comfortable negotiating in front of everyone. I’d rather speak to the managing partner alone as he’s the only one who has the ability to make decisions. I’ll have to wait until Monday to do it in-person but wondering if I should set up a call between now and Monday to discuss? Would Monday be too late?
Is anyone willing to share billable requirements and salaries for mid-sized, Chicago market?

What industry? Most jobs are on LinkedIn. In house search is retained.
Probably best to apply directly for the most part if they have internal recruiters. It gets you to someone internal faster and the company avoids the fees associated with an outside recruiter.
