Any suggestions on resources to improve communication, specifically verbal? Books, podcasts, YouTube channels, etc. Got some feedback that I need to improve my ability to 'speak to my audience'.

Join Toastmasters! There are chapters in just about every city, and they typically meet weekly or bi-weekly and do great speaking exercises in front of a group that helps you with timing, structure, knowing your audience and various other aspects. I did this for a few years in college and it dramatically improved my ability to tell a succinct story.

When you're explaining things, you can try sticking to one upfront sentence to state the outcome and then limit yourself to 2-3 follow-up sentences to clarify. Leave the audience to ask for details. If you feel yourself wanting to fill the silence with words, that may just be getting use to pausing in between thoughts. The time will feel a lot longer to you than the audience

D1 thank you for the feedback, I'll work on that specifically. I am not only referring to presentations, I'm also looking for tips on things like conversations that are more unstructured.

I think “speak to your audience” translates to knowing your audience. Who are you presenting to? How much knowledge do they have in this area? A large part of this is storyboarding as D1 mentioned, but half the battle is knowing the audience and where they’re coming from

Yo, tape yourself, modify, repeat.

Toastmasters is a good group. Also ask if you could deliver a training, share an insight, etc with the team to practice. I have let my folks give updates on current events to the team for practice before.

What do you mean? You’re not adjusting your delivery or language to suit the audience? Or is something else going on?

Www.managertools.com. they are the best by far. Weekly podcasts that go back about 10 years. Best advice on a ton of things. They also have a career tools podcast.

B1 I think that's it. I specifically was told I tend to swap quickly between a 10,000 ft view and a zoomed in view when discussing topics which can make it hard to follow me. Jumping around in perspective too much?

K1 I'll definitely do so.

Thanks all for the responses, I'll look into them!
