Save money, quit job, start non profit, apply in the Fall
You got dinged because of your first characteristic... White male, especially at Stanford.
No but work with people that did, I would say you have a decent chance at Harvard. My next question is how old are you? Harvard likes the younger folks. Average age there is about 2-4 years younger than the rest of the top schools.
Which undergrad? GPA?
Crap is it common for folks to start nonprofits? Here I thought I'd be able to stand out....
Curious to know for: white male, Ivy League or equivalent school, 2-3 years consulting at MBB in the US as only experience, 750-800 GMAT, undergrad GPA 3.7-4.0, has NOT founded a non-profit, etc. Is it no chance for HBS/Stanford? I know about 10 people in that category who applied - no accepts to HBS or Stanford out of the full group.
Did you go to Harvard?
The only people I know that have gotten into HBS or Stanford from MBB either did some crazy leave of absence to work for a non-profit or went to Harvard, Princeton, or Yale for undergrad and had above a 3.7.
Oh! Unless you're former military. Then go for it!
Worst case, you apply and don't get in and you are in the same place you are in right now. Who cares, just do it and stop speculating.
You definitely have a shot - but figure out a way to stand out
