Your salary might also be lower in London compared to say in NYC
London is EXPENSIVE
@OP also, you need to make sure that you make enough money for your family and yourself. But, you need to think about how your life quality will change. I can not speak you your situation but since I moved to europe mine changed in a positive way which you cant really put a dollar value on
Interested as well. I want to move there
When I explored similar options before here through a post, the range was around 100-120 GBP for couple w/ a small child. I dont feel confident about it though. I need to go back and check my post history
Take whatever that cost would be in a nice part of nyc, transpose it onto a nice part of London, and then increase it lol.
You say ‘live in London’: you’ll need to be more specific. What do you consider a reasonable commute—under 60 minutes? Under 90 minutes? Are you considering getting a car? Are you insisting on central London? Can you get by with a 1bd place (you and baby) or will you need 2bd?
Most of my manager-level colleagues live in London outskirts or nearby towns. Have you looked at weekly costs for furnished flats in the target areas you want to live?
@M1 - yeah we realize the salaries will be lower but just trying to gauge what we need to get by and not be completely destitute
@A2 - definitely a 2br maybe 3br and ideally within zones 3or 4 on the tube. Yes we have looked at flats online but it’s hard to gauge some of the surrounding neighborhoods. I last lived there 8yrs ago (pre-baby) and things are incredibly different. Any recommendations on Neighborhoods?
Also we have no idea how much childcare costs there.
@M1 - how has your quality of life improved? Was it more about European work ethic (when I worked there 8yrs ago o put in way less hrs than the US)? Or more space? I need help convincing that the salary cut will be worth it!
