Any thoughts on capabilities of Google Analytics to perform ETL of raw data from source and modeling and visualization versus capabilities in Azure? Thanks.

That’s not really what any of those tools do.

Google Analytics is a web app to track website traffic. So it doesn’t do ETL work, or modeling or really any data transformation.

Azure is a bunch of servers connected via the internet so it’s more a way to provision computers to run your ETLs (Usually run in a computer code) and store your servers.

So asking if Azure does visualizations is like asking if any computer can do visualizations- it doesn’t really make any sense bc that’s just not what it is. You could download JavaScript for a visualization tool- but it’s not really Azure doing the visualization.

Sorry SA1, you are way out of date. When people talk about Azure, they mean the whole stack. LUIS, Bot creation tools, the NLP suite etc. The newest PowerBI with extensions for Rev R integration is also there.

AWS and Google have similar suites, though both depend more on Tableau for visualization.

like

Probably because PowerBI is trash ;)

like

If we are talking Google cloud they have a cool trifacta tool with data flow backend.

^ I'm guessing you aren't using all the functions in the new PowerBI. I like Tableau for many things, Domo when simple data ETL is important, and PowerBI when distributing globally or moving into advanced Sankey where the PowerBI libraries are stronger.

I have worked directly with the msft PowerBI team. It isn't anywhere near as good as tableau for my use cases. And for more complicated use cases I'd rather I'd rather just build a dashboard in shiny.

Use cases matter, absolutely. For some uses simple visualizations in R work fine. I have several teams that live in Tableau. And a couple where the flexibility of PowerBI is perfect. Getting NLP Analysis directly within Azure is a simple example.

I don't know if the have fixed this yet in PowerBI but last year you couldn't even wrap the text on their bar chart labels.

Just accepted an offer as a project delivery specialist. To be completely honest, mainly just took the role for the almost 33% pay increase and how much I enjoyed the team during the interview process. Curious about others’ experience (the good, the bad, the ugly 😅)? The project I’m on is slated to last 3-4 years and I’m not necessarily trying to “find a home” at Deloitte or the big four, in general.

I’m unsure if I should stay in workers comp defense or switch into medical malpractice. Problem is, my wife is a doctor and she said she would try to be supportive if I ever did plaintiffs work but would always feel hurt/betrayed if I built a career suing doctors. So with WC, I could transition into claimants one day but with med mal, I’d need to do defense. (Cont’d)

Reading through some possible interview questions for FAANG. One of the ones I've seen on Glassdoor are to design a basic architecture structure for something like Netflix or Twitter or Spotify. I've been researching online using AWS or GCP (still learning all the moving parts of architecture). Any advice on how the setup would be? I'm assuming you'd start with some Load Balancers.
