I went there. Loved it. Fantastic school with a truly global reach. The school’s most popular industries are Consulting and IB, but Tech and Marketing recruiting is strong (all of FANG, select and cool startups {Palantir, Tesla} recruit formally
as well. I’d rank it strongly within the Top 8 (if not Top 5) US schools. If you’re legal to work in the US, US recruiting is easy, but I’d say it’s very easy to move to another country (UK or elsewhere) as LBS talent is in high demand globally
**I was also in IB before LBS, so I did have some cash to use. These are the upper end of my ranges, but some people did decide to go harder than I did. YMMV
Extremely close. Most people live on or near Baker Street, but my class still keeps up and we have regular reunions. I’m based in CA, but that hasn’t stopped me from having a lot of catch ups with friends. I got to see the differences between the cultures of LBS, Columbia, Wharton, HBS etc, and LBS is as close as any of the others (and a bit closer than commuter schools like Columbia, Booth).
My expenses broke down as follows:
Rent: 1250 GBP/month (studio near Baker St)
Food: 300-500GBP/month (I didn’t go out much, as the school provides a lot of options for happy hours, and the Windsor has cheap brews next door)
Metro Travel: 150GBP a month (Tube, Cabs, Uber)
Travel: roughly 300GBP per weekend trip (traveling in Eurozone is so cheap)
I found London to be somewhat comparable to NYC
I absolutely don’t believe the material was lacking- far from it. I was fascinated in many of my classes (which honestly surprised me). Grading was definitely easier than the other Masters programs. This was nice, because during recruiting, you didn’t need to stress as much for finals vs interviews (like a lot of my friends at other schools did). It took the ‘edge’ out of school, while allowing for fun/recruiting/networking. While it was definitely lax, it wasn’t lacking in my opinion. Side note- I know a Boothie that was almost dismissed for failing a test twice- with both times being during MBB recruiting- which I thought was kinda cruel
Google - how close was your class? Interested but concerned that there isn’t a dorm/traditional campus like other business schools.
Great insights, Google1!!! Thanks a lot!! Thinking of budget planning - what is a good estimate for a monthly cost of living during the MBA? I'm concerned London is more expensive than cities in the US, but on the other hand you might get to travel spending much less money on tickets.
Everyone I know from LBS went there to party and travel. I heard from a few friends how the school is very ‘easy’ academically. Does not appeal to me, but certainly does to a lot of folks!
Are you still considered a target school for MBB?
Absolutely. Everyone who wanted an interview with MBB gets one. After that, it’s up to you to close the offer. Check out the employment report
Google1, could you share your thoughts on the academic aspect of LBS?
@google - would you be willing to chat further via a burner? You make some great points
@Google1 could you share the best resources for finding a flat around Baker Street? The ones I found led me to much more expensive options only...
