Any thoughts on OpenText? I’m in a final interview with them and two other companies. Company 1 sent me a clear view of benefits:

401k @ 4% match
100% health care coverage
6 months paid parental leave
Unlimited PTO

What I’m able to find about OpenText is just through Glassdoor which doesn’t have clear info. I’m sure they’re not as good as company 1 but would appreciate any thoughts on pros/cons and also if anyone actually knows that benefits, that would be awesome!!

Word of caution on unlimited PTO: Companies structure PTO as unlimited for their own financial benefit. Defined PTO typically needs to be paid out when an employee leaves the company. With unlimited PTO there is never a PTO balance, so the company doesn’t have to account for it on their books and employees receive no vacation payout if they leave.

Make sure that if you choose a company with unlimited PTO that people actually use it. Ideally, the company will have a mandatory minimum amount of PTO that employees need to take.

A few years ago I worked for a small startup that offered “unlimited PTO” when in reality we were so understaffed that it was actually “bare minimum PTO”. The CEO wanted to stop the few people who did take more than was absolutely necessary and briefly converted to defined PTO offering only 10 days a year. Employees obviously had a huge problem with this and unlimited PTO was reinstated a few months later. However, it was never truly unlimited as the CEO believes 2 weeks off a year is reasonable.

My brother works there in a finance role and seems pretty positive on it. He's been there a few years now.

Good to hear!!

Pick Company 1 unless there are red flags with them. OT 401k match is 2% but they spin it to sound like more. Health benefits not 100% but still good. Not as generous parental leave (not sure exactly what it is tho) Your success and happiness is dependent on your team and how many levels you are away from L1 and L2 since micro management is a big problem. If you are eligible for bonus those tend to be pretty good. Stock is in the toilet. Pending acquisition with Micro Focus could be a shit show so consider how close you would be to that. Good luck!

I realized a slow pace at work is really bad for me. A couple years ago I was experiencing burn out from my fast paced job supporting transactions, and believed by moving to a slower job in a lower cost area, I would be sailing off to the sunset. Wrong, I spend weeks following up with other teams, often times they forgot what we discussed, so I spent 50% if the time reminding them of the topics and next steps. I spend most of my time writing memos no one will read.

which is fair, and to show my credibility I published my first app last week, but I’m still getting similar messages from recruiters this week. Idk what to do??

A much much smaller (20 people) company offered me a role.

With the global economic situation as is, is it worth the risk to change to a job I know i'd like more with less pay, and potentially less job security?
