Any thoughts on SOFI checking and savings account? Looking to switch out of Bank of America and it seems like a great option but I know this bank is relatively new and completely online, don't know much else about it. Thoughts ?

Big fan. Bumped up savings to 3.25% interest recently. Also great cash bonuses with $25 bonus if you sign up through a referral and $250 bonus if you connect direct deposit. It's my main bank now. You also get paychecks 2 days early which is nice.

It’s pretty good. Think I’m at 2.5% checking, 3.25% savings. They have some fee free ETFs. It’s easy to buy mainstream crypto on it as well. Decent ATM network, and you can order free checks.

I think you should maintain an account with a physical bank because sometimes you need a cashiers check or a notary or something.

Agree on using Ally as a HYSA and then keeping a small account open with a physical bank. There are delays with transfers, lower limits on zelle transfers than with BofA, etc which make it helpful to have a physical bank for cash flow purposes.

Haven’t heard anything negative, but I wish Sofi didn’t have the condition of having my DD in order to get the higher rates. I can only DD to one bank so that goes where our joint account is located for easy, immediate transfers. I also use Ally for the HYSA (love their buckets) and Fidelity CMA and brokerage.

No. I inquired to be sure. My old employer was set up to for up to 5 accounts so I was a little shocked when I learned about it.

From my understanding, the amount of tax you pay is mainly based on your tax bracket. Wouldn’t I pay far less taxes (thus inadvertently getting more money) with a traditional Ira since me being retired would put me in a lower tax bracket than me well along in my career?
