Get a personal trainer! They’re expensive but they will teach you how to do all the exercises correctly. Once you can do everything safely then you won’t need the trainer anymore.
I invested in ~6mo of personal training a couple years ago and now I know how to make my own workouts and lift safely for the rest of my life.
Third on this point. I would say that I am advanced at weight training and I still work with trainers to get new ideas and new techniques all the time. I do competitive bodybuilding and there is never a point where you know everything, always gotta keep learning! Plus as a beginner it’s a lot less intimidating going into the weight room with a trainer than by yourself.
When you get a trainer, ask as many questions as possible. Like - why are we training in this particular order today? What is a typical training split? Ask lots of questions about nutrition bc that’s the price that holds it al together! Ask what you should eat before and after training. Keep a journal so eventually you won’t need a trainer anymore
OP, my sister started working with a trainer at a local gym and slowly progressed from there. She is now 25, and started around 22-23. All it takes is commitment from you, and good coaching from the trainer. And it's very much a learning curve, for years to come.
if you want to follow some people who (I think) know what they're doing, a few I'd recommend are @bretcontreras (for lower body), @pheasyque (for understanding correct form), @ebenezersamuel23 (for good, muscle specific workout examples), @soheefit and @katiecrewe (general workouts and fitness advice).
Starting Strength (book) if you want to understand why you do what you do.
StrongLifts 5x5 (app) if you just want to get going.
CrossFit can provide a good intro
@C1 - not mad this just isn’t a great forum for debate on training. Mostly because no one has any idea of our backgrounds. Couldn’t tell if you’re an elite power lifter or just a fat dude with a gallon water jug that can run a mile.
23F and used to powerlift! I started last year by getting 3 sessions with a trainer that taught me how to squat, deadlift, and bench press. Highly recommend. Afterwards I went to the gym super early morning when no one was there to just try it on my own. It took about a month to properly get all of my forms correct. Once you get your forms correct for those things, it’ll be easier to transition into dumbbells imo. But of course everyone is different.
I saw the thread above about CrossFit and am 22F as well and absolutely love it. I’ve been an athlete my whole life and been doing CF for 4 months. At my gym they go over form every session so I feel confident in my form and not injuring myself. And people have noticed I’m more toned this far and I have gotten definitely stronger in this short time.
Love fitbodyapp sculpt program

Same. 25F want to get into this as well. I’ve been dipping my toes in my using dumbbells and following Whitney Simmons ig sets
Follow Jim Stoppani on social media. He is very helpful. He also has a PhD in exercise science.
Go to the gym and start copying people (without being too obvious) until you get the hang of things
But yes... not the best idea for everyone 😂
