Budgeting really helps me with my financial goals. I set automatic transfers from each paycheck to my Roth/brokerage/HYSA and “pay” myself first this way. After that money has been allocated the rest I use for needs/wants. I find that having those automatic transfers helps me avoid lifestyle creep. If I don’t see it, I don’t spend it!

like

It helped me a lot! I also tracked my spending for a couple of months to see where I could cut back a little

How much are you putting in the 401k? I would try to get to maximum match. Are you doing Roth or traditional 401k?

BA1 it really depends on the specific facts of each individual. You are correct that all traditional is better for many. I do find it odd that so many assume Roth is the only right answer. However for most there is no way to know so a split is a good guess

Are you asking how to save more money? Your options are
1. Spend less
2. Make more

That’s literally it

I’m asking for input on my current situation to see if I was missing any opportunities to maximize my income, but thanks for the surface-level input! I shall “spend less” since Dan’s not giving me much of a raise 📝

I was offered partnership w/ equity at a small firm (15 attorneys, half are PI). Midsize market, not in a large city. I have 10 years of experience.

Pre-Partnership total comp was approx., $200,000 plus health insurance fully paid and 401k profit share contributions.

Partnership: salary went up by $50k w/ higher bonus potential. End of year fees are usually $8-900k/year. Half I originate, half I don’t. This year is high: already at $600k.

Wouldn’t it make sense to buy Slack stock tomorrow? I read an article that Slack shareholders will receive $26.79 in cash and 0.0776 shares of Salesforce for each Slack share owned. With Salesforce’s after hours price at $229.75, that means Slack shareholders would receive $26.79 + (229.75*0.0776) = $44.62. Though Salesforce stock can continue dropping, with Slack’s after hours price at $43.56, it seems like investors can earn over $1 per share by buying tomorrow. Am I missing something?
