I was very specific about my needs (which days/hours, responsibilities, high energy, flexible schedule) then I filtered most out based on their replies. A lot of the part time applicants were super young which I wasn’t comfortable with so that was one criteria for me. Also since I was looking for someone responsible and professional I filtered out anyone with haphazardly written responses. I got a lot of flakey applicants (wouldn’t follow through on scheduling interviews) but that made the good ones stand out. I interviewed a few, met two in person and found someone great. I know it can be stressful so good luck!
I was a provider on care.com for years, and had CPR and years of childcare experience... it was a wild ride from the caregiver side too. I had a job with hoarders where there was only one path through the house and cat excrement everywhere, I had a sweet family with twins who were marvelous, I had one dad hit on me repeatedly and creepily, one mom who had contradicting and really difficult demands, and many lovely and unremarkable jobs... please remember to be kind to your care provider regardless. It’s often barely minimum wage and most providers care deeply about doing right by your family. ❤️

I would use care as a last resort, especially given recent scandals on background checks and deleted profiles. Facebook Moms groups in your area are a great resource - post something and you’re bound to get some responses of people looking for a new home for their nanny because their kid is going to school etc. If you’re in NYC, Mommybites.com is also great.
