Having a firm provided iPad that’s set up with access to internal systems is not the same as having an iPad. That’s why you want the firm to give it to you. But you need to come up with why you need it. Could be useful for travel? Certain software?

It costs a billable hour of your time. If it helps you be more productive, the firm will want to buy it for you. Tell them you need it to facilitate working on other matters while waiting in the courtroom or during travel.
Have you asked them for one?
