Any tips for getting your baby to sleep better? She is almost 2 months old and her sleep schedule seems to be worsening. We put on a sound machine, swaddle her, and only put her in the crib when she’s already fallen asleep. She is just restless in her sleep and multiple times a night she will lose her pacifier then wake up. We believe she has acid reflux so we think laying her on her back is part of it, but we can’t do much about that.

When she's a little older, like 6 months, try Ferberizing her (Google it - they explain better than I can) - it worked for my tough sleepers. Right now, all I can suggest is what you're already doing - tight swaddling, being close enough to mom to hear her heartbeat, and motion. Two of my kids loved to sleep in their automatic swings on high - so much so, that we had batteries on speed dial. It may have looked like they were prepping for a moonshot, but it worked.

likefunny

Lol she does sleep in the swing some during the day, but it can be hit and miss with her. I’ll have to look into the Ferberizing, thanks!

Honestly, it’s a battle, but if you continue to sleep train it should pay off eventually. We went through periods like this and all of a sudden she was sleeping 8-10 hours a night.

like

Don’t sleep train yet - she’s too young. You’re in the throws of newborn-ness right now. We used the Merlin Magic sleepy suit and it was like a switch was flipped for our baby.

like

It’s more just trying to get her to sleep soundly for 3 hours or so at a time at night rather than sleep training. We know the sleep regression and teething stages are to come, so we will try to train later. During the day it’s not as big of a deal because we are awake. Will have to look into the Merlin!

Agree with a lot of what’s been said. One thing to add, I don’t think you’re supposed to put them in the crib already asleep. The best is drowsy but awake so she learns to fall asleep on her own and doesn’t wake up startled that she’s in a different place from where she fell asleep

Every kid is different but my daughter had reflux pretty bad too. We had to switch her formula to a more sensitive brand. We also had pretty good luck with the magic Merlin sleepsuit. Some kids just don’t like to be swaddled all night and the sleepsuit helps with the startle reflex. Good luck, it does get better!

I second the sleep suit - helped a lot with ours!

Is the room completely dark?

Agree with Taking Cara Babies, helped us dramatically!

If you’re breastfeeding, a friend mentioned how she stuck to a strict diet and her baby basically slept through the whole night. I’m not sure of specifics but it might be something to look into.

It's a cycle, and it's baby dependent. White noise machines are great, get a good one that has a little bass to it. Of course don't crank the volume at 2' from their head - you can actually cause long term hearing damage, but a low level noise helps a lot. Also swaddles make a big difference, sleep sacks when they are a little older. Another one that might be controversial in the US, but very popular and approved in Europe, is a DockATot - don't cheap out on knock offs with this type of product, or buying knock off covers for it. The DockATot has been tested and approved extensively in Europe that it is extremely breathable, and also doesn't hold CO2 if the baby ends up with their face in it. This made a huge difference for both our kids the first few months.

Kids are a mixed bag for sleep. Our daughter was sleeping solidly through the night by 3-4 months. Our son is a year and a half and still can be difficult to get asleep sometimes, but then he's completely out all night. He was not sleeping solid through the night on a very regular basis until about 9 months.

Hang in there, it's exhausting, but worth every minute! We never did any kind of "sleep training", and our kids figured it out. If they cried, we got them without question, and eventually it all disappears as they get older.

I had to look it up, but we have something similar to the dockatot deluxe version. She will nap in it sometimes during the day, and she did well with it earlier on, but as of late seems to prefer the swing or the boppy. We think this is because of the reflux and the swing and boppy allow her head to be propped up more.

Weeks 5-8 are the fussiest- hang in there!! She’s still too young for sleep training but you’re getting there!

Our kid had acid reflux as a newborn and we placed slim books underneath one side of the crib mattress to elevate the mattress slightly so the head could be slightly elevated. Might be worth a try

We did put a towel under the mattress on one end just last night and it seemed to help. We will have to see what happens the next couple nights and hope that she sleeps more soundly.

My daughter had horrible reflux. We got a reclining baby seat that vibrates and put her in it for 30 minutes after every bottle. Works wonders for both burping and reflux.

Like the fisher price baby bouncer. Set her up, turn on the vibration, and she was good to go

Not sure how you do pacifiers when they are sleeping... Never heard of that. You're supposed to put them down when they are getting tired and not already asleep.

My son had bad reflux. I stopped breastfeeding and starting using Similac For Supplementation, it’s a teal colored. Worked like a charm! His reflux stopped and he started sleeping soundly through the night without pain. He would sleep in his bassinet, it vibrated and played music. He also loved his pacifier. If it knocked out he’d stay asleep, mostly because the reflux wasn’t bothering him

most of what I bring up in these meetings are logistical or prioritization concerns but I feel like my manager is expecting a lot more from me.
