Sometimes, for us moms, that part is not going back to normal. There’s some medical reasons (ripping the core muscles apart or something like that- I’ve read about permanent damage and even my super skinny runner friend always had it after her kid) Keep going with your health plans and maybe try a trainer for a few months? They can help you understand what’s possible for body shape.

Be careful with “trainers”. A high school student can study a 15 page book and become a certified “trainer”. There are certainly some great ones, but the guy who tells you to eat more spinach and shows you the lat pull down machine is not a trainer.

One thing I never thought would work but helped me is pulling in your tummy as hard as you can for 15 secs several times a day and then work up to 60 secs at a time. I used to do it throughout my 30min drives to/from work in the car. This doesn’t help lose weight but it tones that lower “pooch” so it doesn’t stick out. Also planks are great for core. Intermittent fasting has been a game changer for me for weight loss. I read 14 hrs is best for women (16 hrs for men) so my last meal every night is 7pm and I don’t eat again until 9am. I’m flexible with it and sometime my last meal is 6pm or 10pm but then I ALWAYS wait at least 14 hrs before eating again. I saw small losses the first month (maybe 6 lbs) but after 2 months I lost another 12-15lbs and have kept it off. I do cardio 3x per week and weight training 3x per week. Muscle burns more calories so getting toned helps a lot. I also eat 1 Brazil nut per day for extra selenium as I heard it was good for thyroid function. I’ve had my thyroid tested and doc says it’s in the normal range but the range is very large and I’ve always thought maybe what’s normal for me is different. I struggled for YEARRRRRS and it feels good to have finally found what works for me. I hope you find what works for you 💪

Just have to add something after reading a comment above. No ab exercise is going to make your tummy flatter. Like all muscles, your ab muscles *grow* when you train them. If you’re building core muscles but not losing weight (fat), your belly will stick out slightly more, not less. I can’t say it enough: you can’t spot reduce fat. Core work is still important and working on your core will show visible results when your body fat percentage gets low enough, but just working your core isn’t going to get you what you’re looking for.

Normally that stretching of muscles would have resolved this long after childbirth, unless she’s dealing with diastasis recti, which would probably require a doctor and/or trainer to resolve.

diet harder - it’s a simple calories in vs calories out - I know it sounds easier said than done but try to make small changes that’ll cut your calories. Lot easier to cut calories than exercise more

zero carb pasta, sugar free jello, seltzer water, really filling greens like watercress and spinach

Agree that it’s calories in vs calories out. You need to create a caloric deficit - if you’re not losing weight, that means you’re eating more calories than you’re burning. Get a food scale, download My Fitness Pal, and track your intake, including stuff like cooking oils and sauces, by weight, not measurements like cups/tablespoons/units (e.g, 1 apple). The most likely scenario is that you’re eating more calories than you realize. To make your deficit easier, prioritize protein to help you retain muscle as well as fruit and vegetables to add volume and help you feel full. Try to drink 100 oz of water per day. And prioritize strength training over cardio - while cardio burns more calories in the short term, strength training has better after burn, and muscle burns more calories at rest. It sounds like you already have good exercise habits and are eating healthy, so you have a good foundation for the rest. Just remember that you can’t spot reduce fat or out train a suboptimal diet, so all the cardio and crunches in the world won’t cause you to lose belly fat. It’s mostly going to be diet. Good luck! You got this.

Thanks all for the helpful tips! I am the worst about drinking water and agree I might not be accurately calorie counting. I’ll try and incorporate some of these tips into my day and see how it goes!

I’m an attractive 42 year old happily married mother of 4. I’m not drop dead gorgeous but a 8/10. Dads of my kids friends text me to invite my kids to activities and additional sport practices. I’m pretty naive and assume they’re doing it because they like my kids. I don’t want to send the wrong message by accepting. Are they interacting with me because of my kids or because I’m attractive? If I bring my kids to the functions am I sending a message that I’m interested in something else?

Hi all! I’m doing some research on parental leave policies to make a case to improve ours. How many weeks does your policy offer? Does it differ between “primary” and “secondary” caregiver? Birth vs other means of growing your family? I’m particularly interested in independent shops, but would love to hear from folks at the network agencies as well. It you could comment with your agency name, I’d be super grateful. Thank you thank you! ❤️
