Any tips for moving into management role from Technical position? There's only so many LinkedIn learning courses I do. I've taken all the opportunities for people management made available but lately it feels like "assistant to the manager" Dwight Shrute busy work. I've been applying for leadership roles but at the pay level I'm at now, years of experience is needed. Do I just have to take a massive pay cut on the chin and start again?

Same, was going to comment just for that haha

Sometimes that does happen if you're switching roles. I had to take a pay cut when I went from cyber security to consulting.

like

I would hope not tbh...I think you just have to keep applying, but maybe tweak your resume to reflect leadership stuff you're doing in the technical role? I think YOE can be a tricky one but I think the key is to show what you can do and see if that's enough to at least get an interview

like

I don't necessarily think you'll need to take a pay cut, but you may just need to be patient. In the meantime, I'd focus on getting some leadership projects under your belt so you can put them on your resume and/or showcase them in your interviews. Also, is there any chance you might be able to maybe move into a different department as an assistant manager where you might get some more experience? At the very least, I'd ask your current manager to give you more challenging projects.

I had a friend who made the transition from management into tech but had to take the paycut as a result of it. On the plus side, she is very close to her previous salary and only took about two years of hard work to do so. If you really want to get into tech, this may have to be an option granted I would think the last resort.

like

It might make sense to take the pay cut if you don't want to invest a few more years in the slow wait.

like

Well, firstly what technical position are you going for ?

Might have to take the pay cut or hits the books with more schooling to level up, mate

How valuable is the AWS cloud practitioner and AWS solution architect certifications if I’m coming from a consulting role where it wasn’t applied much practically, even though company is Health IT . I have a high technical aptitude but I’m wondering how much weight do they hold as far as new opportunities if I haven’t used them in work but understand them well enough to speak through the information and pass the certs. Any insight is helpful only been in a consulting 1.5 yr and want to expand

My company was acquired by a larger company. They offered me a more senior position outside of EA space, in an area that i know very little about, but no additional pay compensation. I also do not get equity, like at my last company. They’ll offer me a retention bonus after 1 year equal to the amount of severance they would have given if I do not take the job. Would you take the new job or take the severance and find something more in line with what I’m doing now?
