Any tips for moving up in a medium/large-sized legal department, aside from switching companies? I work in a collegial environment with plenty of opportunities to create more value, but the management level is fairly crowded and it seems the clearest path to get one of those roles is to be hired into it. What has been your experience? Thanks!

The easiest way to get promoted is generally external, and you’re also more likely to get a bigger bump in comp.

If you really like the company you are at now and leave on good terms, you can always look to boomerang when one of those roles does open as well.

Hello everyone,

I plan to get into Strat Consulting/Prod Mgmt, as these 2 career paths align with my long-term plan of being an entrepreneur. But since I don't have the exact prior work ex, I am having a hard time finding a role. I have a master's in management, 5 years of work ex with 2.5 in IT at Accenture, 2 at SANOFI in a Global Strategy team, and 1 in SaaS start-ups.

I'd be extremely grateful if anyone can help me with a referral in Amsterdam, London, or Paris.

Thanks in advance!

First picture I’ve been able to take of all 3! the 2 kittens on the left have been with me for 4 months. The calico has been very annoyed that anyone should enter her home, and always requires a 40 foot personal space bubble. If any cat dares enter, she hisses, swats and runs away. We might finally have a breakthrough!

Among Accenture & ADP what would be better? (I personally feel as Accenture is purely a service based organisation, a higher salary would be a little risky, not sure thou) ADP Accenture

For the past year I have applied to in-house positions without so much as an interview. I review the job descriptions to make sure my skills are transferable, tailor my resume to the required skills and when possible, provide a cover letter indicating why I want to move in-house. For context I have about five years of insurance coverage experience. Is there something is am missing? Any advice from folks who have managed to make the move?

I am a very junior partner that was just offered the opportunity to be the sole in house counsel for a small (75 employees/$40m annual revenue) in an industry where I have very little knowledge. Great opportunity to grow if it goes well but I’m not sure if my background is right. I’ve been looking for a way to transition out of lit and in house and this came about very unexpectedly. Is taking it the right call?

My background is in tech transactional. I joined a cybersecurity SaaS startup at the end of last year and now also handle more generalist matters in addition to all things commercial-related. I have a number of books on contracts that I’ve found super helpful over the years (The Tech Contracts Handbook, A Manual of Style for Contract Drafting, Sign Here, etc.). Can anyone recommend books they’ve found helpful for L&E matters, privacy matters, product matters, or marketing/advertising matters?

Thoughts on when a contract is silent as to whether liability is uncapped? We typically cap liability at contract price, but this particular heavyweight co. wants TCs accepted as is. Their terms disclaim consequential damages but there’s no language at all about whether it’s capped or uncapped. If a K is silent as to this, is it implied that both parties have agreed to uncapped? Or does it go to reasonableness standard?
