My biggest tip is to do things in short bursts. Don't try to do things all in one go. I set a timer. #0 min on 5 off. Give it a go and tell me how it goes for ya!
You had me at 0 minutes on
Make sure you are fed and watered. Map out your work, after more stressful sections you can take a break and come back strong. Get up from your desk. I use music and audio books to kinda keep time, if I’ve listened to a 45 album I should have x or y tasks completed.
I like this trick. I listen to music all the time while working but it often becomes background noise. I'm going to try this out.
I would read target 100. That book helped me develop such good patterns and habits. Focus was a big one and I figured out a system that works for me specifically. The other suggestions are great but you need to take the time and identify what's taking your attention. Cuz it's going somewhere always.
I'm going to have to give this book a chance! Thank you for the recommendation!
Same here. I’m struggling right now 😩
Yessss. I don’t know if it’s a habit I picked up from my old job that I hated where I always zoned out during meetings and just haven’t gotten rid of it, covid making me feel lazier given wfh, or meeting heavy culture making me tired of constantly listening but I just cannot focus in meetings (outside of 1:1s). I am so distracted.
If you're working from home, try working in a new spot for an hour or for the duration of your next task. Couch, bedroom, kitchen table, anywhere that breaks up the monotony.
I'm someone who loves having a set place to work everyday, plus I have a huge desk/monitor set up. But even I'm losing my focus after 2 years of being in the house most days (winter only makes it worse!). Gotta create new habits and patterns while at home to copy the ones we used to take for granted in the office ( moving around for meetings, coffee, lunch, small talk, etc)
List out the 3 things that'll make the biggest difference for tomorrow. Tackle those things first.
This is a great way to think of it!
Most people are having this issue…Consider working from the office sometimes…all you need is change of environment…maybe intentionally leave your primary phone at home
Exercise provides HUGE benefits when it comes to gaining energy and focus. It's also a big mood booster.
Try a pomodoro timer.
Umm but no in all seriously, please don’t take any drugs you’re not prescribed I’d say, try caffeine or tea or a healthy smoothie with cacao powder (helps with focus), take your vitamins, make sure you’re working out and you’re being challenged, listening to chill slow piano like music sometimes helps me and orient your tasks and meetings (if you can) around the times you are most productive in a day.
Limit your sugar intake. Have a small breakfast and very small lunch. These approaches really help me.
Actually having a large early breakfast that has protein, fats and carbs will give you more energy. Don't go for sugary carbs for sure. Fresh fruit and veggies, nuts, whole grains are impor5ant.
Take breaks, actually get up and do something else for 10 mins about every 60 to 90 mins. Drink lots of water, start your day with what motivates you- music, a book, exercise... take time off, have after work plans ever so often find a new role, you may be burnt out or bored!

I’ve been on the struggle bus with focus, too. I use a few apps that help. Noise cancelling headphones (AirPods) with Brainwave and Simply Noise. Both have white noise that help you focus. I also use Clubhouse working/writer rooms. 50 minutes of work and a 10 minutes break each hour. It helps when you’re working from home but you can still work with others in the same struggle. The forced break ensures you move around. Plus I make task lists every morning before heading down to my office. 5 or 6 things a day.
