Any tips on a junior associate can begin contributing on calls?

What’s everyone’s thoughts on applying to several different positions within the same company? I’m looking at about 4 each with different focuses but mainly revolving around data analytics or entry level project analyst/coordinator. A friend of mine said it’s not a good look as it shows the company that you’re desperate. I really disagree, I feel it’s in your best interest to apply as many as you feel qualified for. Any thoughts?

Where can I get good and affordable baby clothes 0-3 months?

I’m a first year. I got a random email from a high level partner asking me to basically handle an entire and very complicated matter that is not my practice area. Anyone here who considered/worked in consulting (MBB/T2) before law school? What was the reason you decided to commit to the law route given fairly similar pay yet arguably better WLB, exit ops, and more stimulating work?

I’m considering a lateral move. New firm is offering a full bonus for pro-rated hours, which is nice but I doubt I’ll hit hours due to HR/admin onboarding work, ramp up, coming on in the middle of deals, etc. Any chance I can negotiate for a guaranteed bonus regardless of hours or is that unreasonable? I don’t want to annoy the new firm but I want to at least be made whole.

Is having an offer at another firm the only way to get a retention bonus? I’m still on pace for over 2900 hours for the year (5th yr in debt finance) and to be honest, a strong associate (currently enjoying life on 9 active matters...). I like my firm and my work, but I know I’m leaving money on the table by not looking elsewhere. Has anyone had success with these bonuses? While I’d gladly take a one month vacation over money at this point, I am trying to buy a house and extra money can’t hurt..

Any Canadians who lateraled to the US in 2021 have any advice on filing cross border taxes? I’ve been quoted an absurdly high rate by a a mid size accounting firm. Just want to file my taxes with someone competent to avoid any issues/high tax return given large signing bonus and jump in pay. Any referrals to good cross border accountants at a reasonable rate?

What should I wear for an interview to lateral into big law as a woman? My current practice is very casual and I rarely dress even in business casual clothes. Go for bright colored blouse with suit jacket and pants? Skirt a must? Stay classic with black and white? Heels or flat shoes? Do I need to do my nails? Hair curled/put back? Not sure how much this all matters beyond generally dressing up.

Is it really a good thing for partners to fight over you?
