Any tips on going in-house in the renewable energy industry (wind)? How do I prep? How can I stand out?

Do plenty of industry research. Renewables are a very niche industry which requires specific knowledge. There are a lot of acronyms.

Understand how wind farms actually work from a practical/technical perspective. There are lots of good videos on YouTube.

Understand how accreditation works, government subsidies etc.

Review some EPC contracts, O&M contracts, development agreements, turbine supply agreements.

That should get you started :)

Is life insurance a priority to anyone at the moment, and if so why is life insurance important to you?

It can be impossible to deal with financial losses due to declining health or unforeseen circumstances by not having life insurance. In these cases, the solution to your debts (that can affect the financial stability of you or your loved ones) may fall within the category of life insurance.

Additional Posts in In-House Counsel

I could use some perspective from my fellow 🐠: had an interview with a Deputy GC a little over 2 weeks ago. They said at the end of the interview that they were going on vacation so it might take a little longer than usual to hear back. They did not provide a timeline for next steps otherwise.

Is this code that they want to move the process forward with other candidates first, or am I overthinking things? Should I follow up or just let the process play out?

Any tips for moving up in a medium/large-sized legal department, aside from switching companies? I work in a collegial environment with plenty of opportunities to create more value, but the management level is fairly crowded and it seems the clearest path to get one of those roles is to be hired into it. What has been your experience? Thanks!

Have had a lack of interest now for a couple months. Just generally not interested in anything going on at work. Part of it is some new initiatives and new leadership - and I am just not drinking the kool aid. It is hard only having one client sometimes. There’s no escape. Does anyone else who came from a busy private practice with dozens of clients ever feel burnt out from dealing with the same people day in and day out? The same people are always making trouble. It’s just getting old.

I’ve only been practicing for less than 2 years and got an in-house counsel position right out of law school. The only other attorney that is in-house is also leaving and I’m extremely nervous about doing everything on my own. I’m waiting for an offer. At the offset of interviewing they told me the range was 180-195 and I said that it was lower than I am looking for generally which I wanted to be up front about, but there was a possibility I could be a bit flexible depending on other factors so I was interested in continuing. Assuming they make me an offer in that range, how much more is reasonable to try to ask for?

I work in privacy (3rd year AMLaw) and get tons of screener interviews for in house positions, but never make it past the screener call. I have the experience the position is looking for (truthfully answer the do you have experience questions with always yes), do my research on the company before the call, and think I come across as a reasonably normal person. Is there something I am doing wrong or missing? Is it my relative inexperience being a third year?

I just received an offer for a job I am very excited about. Base is within reasonable range and I will likely go back and ask for a bit more there. The company also offers a yearly cash bonus based on the performance of the company as well as a stock grant. Those are determined based on percentages of base salary. My question is: are those percentages typically negotiated or set based on position?

I recently started a new job in house. Previously I’ve been at two other companies in house prior. I am in my 8th year of practice and have only done L&E during all previous jobs. I love L&E and was told this new role would be L&E.

Flash forward to starting- the role is 0% L&E and they have me doing contracts, data privacy, IP….I never would’ve taken the role if I would’ve known this is the actual area of law they were going to give me work in but I hate my new job and don’t know what to do.
