Any tips on how to confront a staffer who’s becoming passive aggressive, constantly interrupting, and pressing me literally every few minutes to ‘see how progress is coming’. FYI, staffer is a 4Y associate. We’re on a deadline. I am, lower than low on the totem poll, yet, do not believe this is professional behavior. I’m happy to put off our conversation until after the deadline, but I’m not keen on working with them in the future unless this is solved.

Is it possible that it’s their passive aggressive partner/senior associate which may be causing this behavior? I’m a third year and any time I am actually annoyingly pushy is because i am being pushed by the partner to nudge the team (and totally not voluntary).

I’m too unimportant to know. Very little visibility on that front but it’s possible. I haven’t seen other team members above them act like this though. Another mid-level occasionally dishes out jerky behavior but seniors are surprisingly civil

Management is an art. It takes a lot of time and experience to do right. I would discuss with HR.

I think this is a good approach. I think a call could be a good idea - you can say you’re pushing towards completion as soon as possible and gently suggest that the constant checkins are slowing progress. Also, maybe if they vent a little they won’t be on top of you as much?

When they follow up again X minutes later, just tell them that you’re slightly further than when they asked X minutes ago.

That’s kind of passive aggressive in my book. I don’t want to rock the boat any more. I’m looking to dissuade the situation and hopefully solve it for the future.

I have an internal transfer offer to FDD but am also interviewing with PWC. Does it make sense to leverage the fact that I already have an offer in my PWC interviews?
