Any tips on lateraling from Big 4 Tax M&A to Corporate/M&A or Tax Group at an AmLaw 200 firm?

What is a reasonable salary to ask for from a big 4 firm? I am interviewing with a couple and don’t want to ask too high or too low. I’m currently a senior associate at a large firm in Atlanta and the past week marked 5 years there (my first job).

How many years of FDD experience does A&M typically require? I’ve heard great things about their comp and seems like there’s so much more up side than b4 since bonuses are a % of billable hours. Anyone know what a typical A&M senior bonus was this year?

Big 4 recruiters can I interview for two roles concurrently in the same big 4 but in different countries? For eg interviewing for different roles in PWC UK and PWC Germany

I’ve heard of some account service individuals who jumped from Account Executive/Account Manager to Account Supervisor (vs AE -> SAE -> AS). From research, it’s seems like an SAE requires 3-4 YOE and an AS required 4-6 YOE. However, for those who have experienced this jump in their own career, do you feel the account sup role you landed to be more “junior level” than a “normal” AS role normally is? Did your team feel adequately supported, or should they have hired a more experience AS?

How does your firm keep track of billable hours? Are you measured by month or year or both?

Is it normal to have a yearly requirement but get emails/phone calls any month you come in “short” (below the estimated monthly requirement to meet your yearly goal) regardless of whether you’re on track to meet or exceed your yearly requirement?

Probably paranoid but do you think our firms know if we contacted a recruiter? A recruiter emailed my firm account and I want to respond thru my gmail but I’m so scared my firm will find out somehow.

I just joined a firm (start of November) and I have not gad much work, certainly not enough to meet the billlable. I have been asking for work and I know this is ramp-up but I am not looking forward to all the weekend work in Jan-March to make up for the hours.

Do you think biglaw (or at least certain practice groups) could ever function the same way as hospitals? With certain people “on call”, i.e. there’s a corporate junior, mid-level and senior on call each weekend for emergencies, and others are off? I understand that familiarly with a deal is key, but if everyone’s putting their notes together, similar to a patient’s chart, I wonder if that would ever be a possibility.

Anyone know of any openings for real estate associates that are open to remote candidates? I’m not really looking to relocate, and the other firms in my location don’t really have anything open at the moment.

I’m lateraling, and so requested a report from our conflicts department for matters I’ve worked on. Our conflicts department is in a different office. What are the chances word has traveled to my office that I asked for the report? Is it a telltale sign that someone is leaving? I have not given notice yet.

I’m wondering if a move from a V10 in NYC to another big law firm in a smaller market would actually mean less hours. Is there reallyyyy a difference?

Every year I end up owing about $12-15k in federal taxes. (Plus an underpayment penalty). If you’re a single senior associate with no dependents, have you figured out a way to not under withhold? I.e. number of exemptions, extra withholdings each paycheck.
