Make it a goal to learn a new shortcut a week. Pretty soon you’ll be using shortcuts without even thinking. Another way is to ditch the mouse and force yourself to learn or be slow...I know lots of people who have done this and it worked
Challenge yourself to go 15 minutes without using your mouse. See what you need it for in those 15 minutes, and then memorize the shortcuts. Once you’re consistently going 15 minutes without your mouse, up it to 30, 45, etc.
Best advice I was given:
“Learning how to use excel without a mouse is like learning a new language; there’s only one way to do it - practice as much as possible.”
Ditch the mouse and you’ll learn to navigate excel very quickly in a few weeks. Really resist any temptation to use the mousepad. You’ll be a little slower at first, but after you get in the rhythm you will be faster than you ever could be if you used a mouse.
I have a few fundamental shortcuts I use that can be applied to almost anything. My favorite way to learn is to work close to those who are senior to me. Also, whenever I think to myself, “there has to be a faster/better way for this”, there usually is, and I will google it.
How advanced? Get a cheat sheet for the basics. Set up your QAT for most common shortcuts. Use alt+ for (most) things in the ribbon. I say most because legacy shortcuts can be much faster. Google “excel shortcut for xx” as needed.
Ditch your mouse and/or don’t use your touchpad if you’re using a laptop Lol
