Seconded on Plano. Close enough to both airports, great housing and lots to do.
The west village or deep Ellum are also great places
Dallas native here: Uptown is close to downtown, arts districts, bars/ clubs, the best in public transport that we have (which isn’t much- you will require a car), and is where most younger people with money are going. The downside: it’s a bit pricey. Bishop Arts is a great area near restaurants, and if you’re considering the metroplex as a whole, Arlington contains all of the sports but still maintains a neighborhood feel.
If you travel a bunch, consider near the airport. If you expect local, consider the major arteries of transport. If you could put yourself within a quick drive of both a major north-south highway and east-west highway, that could be a boon for optionality. Eg near 30 & 75. Or near the tollway and 30.
Age & family situation make a difference - Eg I didn't look at uptown cause I have a family and that scene is a little younger.
What are you looking for? Access to airport? How much space, do you have kids? Access to downtown?
We live in Richardson. Great access to 75 and 635, but not convenient for the airport (I don't travel for work).
I live in West Plano, in the Shops of Legacy. Great area. Lots of restaurants, services, etc. I’m 25 minutes from DFW and 25 minutes from DAL.
I travelled from DFW for about a year and just lived in Euless. I would probably live in Ft Worth if I moved back.
Awfully long commute to the office from Fort Worth though, even with the tollroad.
