If you are thinking of starting a law practice or growing one with little or no capital, you need to get the book, “Starting & Growing a Law Practice without Breaking the Bank.
It was written based on personal experience and research. I started my practice 11 years ago in the middle of the 2008/2009 recession with about $500 and I have grown the practice significantly over the years using affordable and available resources.
I also coach solo practitioners and small firm attorneys. https://www.amazon.com/Starting-Growing-Practice-Without-Breaking/dp/1099523303

I’m not sure what their incentive is. The reimbursement program is meant to bring folks back to the firm, while investing in their development in the form of an MBA. Perhaps your firm has enough applicants through on campus recruiting and doesn’t need to introduce this kind of retroactive programs. Once they give you retroactive reimbursement, they open themselves to A LOT of other similar requests. If I were them, I wouldn’t want to set this precedent.
And they only hired you as an associate? Should have hired you as a senior with the higher salary acting as a form of reimbursement. Unless the degree isn’t relevant to your role, in which case they wouldn’t fund it / pay you more than those without it.
Besides I wouldn’t want to skip - I’d rather double dip with the promotion increases. You might be able to get promoted in back to back years or worst case 2 years if they were strongly considering you for promo from associate to manager.
