Just don’t drink. Doesn’t matter how much you don’t want to hear it, that’s the answer.
Figure out why you are drinking. The next time you have the urge to drink alone, hold that feeling for a little while without judging yourself. Try to sense what you are feeling or thinking at that time. Is it anxiety? Loneliness? Depression? Irritability? You’re right the answer isn’t stop drinking it’s figuring out why you drink and addressing the reasons.
Order sparkling water and drink it slowly.
Drink Kombucha. You get it at bars and it feels like a drink.
I have a hard rule against drinking alone - find that fairly easy to follow. When out, and I want to limit my drinking, I only order drinks I don’t like... significantly slows me down.
Thanks (mostly) everyone! I’m going to stock up on some lemons and seltzer. I’ve never heard of the sunflower seed trick but I do love popcorn, maybe that would help when I’m alone. Also, I’ve never heard of drinking vinegar, had to look it up. Very interesting! Mad love fishbowl fam
Sign up for a 5k/10k/half-marathon/whatever a stretch goal for you might be. Set a time goal for yourself - also a stretch. And try to actually get it. You'll be surprised by how much it helps reduce your alcohol intake.
Club soda with lime
It’s a mindset for me. I don’t want empty calories, and want to exercise and build muscle. I wake up every morning at 6 to hit the gym. Once you get into a habit, drinking just stops because I have another priority.
Been through this as a consultant. Happy to talk. And NO the answer is not just don’t drink.
Find activities to do that are not drinking-oriented.
Strongly consider Naltrexone. Medication exists to help with this, is proven effective, and is readily available.

This article has some good ideas. I cut back because I found that I was mindlessly drinking and not enjoying it really. Why consume the calories if you’re not enjoying it? The first few days were weird because I was just so used to pouring a drink after a long day of work, but after that it was easy. A doctor told me that you should seek help if you try to reduce your drinking but struggle. Best of luck to you! Keep us posted.

Figure out why you feel you need to drink? The social aspect tends to be fine but if you feel the need to drink alone and often maybe that is a sign for something more serious?
How much do you typically drink? If you’re trying to gradually reduce the amount, give yourself a limit (like 2 drinks) & stick to it. Don’t take shots / drink quickly, get something you can slowly sip on. Also get a non alcoholic drink to drink at the same time (water with lemon, soda, juice, etc) so you drink less alcohol before getting full.
I would also recommend talking to your doctor. Not sure if this is the case for you, but many people have a genetic predisposition to alcoholism & there is medication you can take to help with that. Therapy could also be really helpful. Remember you are strong & you can take control of this! Sending positive vibes your way!
Go to all nude strip clubs where they don't serve alcohol. Fill one addiction with another. Then in a year after the stripper you fell in love with blows all your money go back to alcohol.
Stock up your fridge with La Croix, & whenever you have the urge for a beer or wine have one of these instead.
Resistance is futile...just drink..eventually you will know when you have had too much !!
This helped me a lot too
Just don’t drink alone? Unfortunately a question about not drinking is always going to involve- you guessed it!- not drinking
