@IPG 1 - Good on you. It's not easy, but coming from someone who suffered from daily panic attacks and crippling OCD, you owe it to yourself to get better. It's never a quick fix, you won't wake up feeling like a different person, but hopefully you'll have the tools for progress. Keep going.

I think I might be suffering from depression
I'm leaving my job with nearly hardly any money saved.
I listen to the same Madonna song on every flight as it takes off in case it crashes I'm going out in style.
I have a SO and a handful of really solid friends, but I still feel lonely. As I grow older, my social circle shrinks due to marriages, moves, kids, lack of time. It's a bummer.

@AAD1, not joking, and I have seen a doctor. But it will be a long and difficult process to try and get rid of this issue now that I know what it is :(.

Freelance1, while it's definitely a tricky situation, it's not impossible. You may even be one of those people for whom it clears up spontaneously! If you don't experience pain in that region when sitting for a long periods of time or inserting tampons etc. it may not necessarily be a case of hypersensitive nerves and there may be another cause for your discomfort. You mentioned seeing a doctor - is this a general GP or gynaecologist you've been seeing? If it's a GP, I'd definitely recommend a gynaecologist, perhaps your doctor can refer you to one with a good reputation and experience with these issues. If you suffer from thrush or eczema, believe it or not these can be linked to your condition and treatment for these could help.
There's also the psychological barrier to factor in - you're anticipating pain, so you're not relaxed in the first place which makes sex more painful for anyone! If you can tolerate it, lots of foreplay to boost arousal and relaxation and a non-irritating lube can really help, and while you're not in a relationship you can always practice yourself if you're comfortable. There are kits designed for vaginismus which help women work up to penetration, and a little self love ain't nothing to be embarrassed about :) Remember, no guy is going to be too concerned if you say penetrative sex is something you're building up to but you're happy to enjoy other sexual acts and spend lots of time on them to figure out what you really, really like! You can still be a sexy and sexual being without penetration, so please don't let your confidence take a hit because of this.
