I interviewed with Firm A months ago and accepted a position to start this upcoming fall. Group leader called me to offer the position back in November 2020. Besides interviewing with partners at the firms, and diligent follow ups notifying them of my interest to get started, no communication has transpired since. It turns out that I accepted a better offer w/ Firm B for personal reasons and won’t be going to Firm A. What is the best way to notify Firm A? Call/email group leader? Call/email HR?

Speaks volumes that they will match aggressive salary increases at the drop of the hat but no one is interested in matching actual policies that will benefit attorneys’ lives and mental health.
I mean there’s certainly ways to improve it, but gender neutral is not the norm and men don’t typically take the full leave in big law. So any progress is better than what is currently offered most places. Also, women don’t get this long of leave at some firms still either.
In addition to the leave mentioned, Ropes will let you tack on 10 days of rollover vacation and the 20 vacation days for the current year to your leave. If you take it all together, the hours will still be prorated during this time. Not official policy but if you make prorated hours, they’ll give you the full bonus.
Technically you’re allowed 20 days a year, 10 roll over but expire in March or so
Many other firms already have this policy. K&E, Sidley, Orrick, Latham…
K&E is 18 weeks for birthing mother I think?

What is the policy?

I’m at a small regional firm. They have a 4 week paternity leave policy. It’s taken a week at the time within 12 months of the birth. Not sure how that stacks up but I’m pleased with it.
