Any venture counsels or paralegals out there struggle with the logistics of KYC submissions? Increasingly I’m finding that platforms require a corporate officer to submit documentation, and it’s frustrating to have to ask the busy GC to submit an administrative form because I can’t. I always send a packet of info/documents I presume the platform will request, but just wondering if anyone has tips on how to navigate.

You can ask the GC to "authorize" you to do it. If the GC is annoyed enough, he or she can make you asst secretary.

Has anyone considered becoming a real estate agent just to save on those RE agent fees? If you do just one transaction per decade for yourself, seems like you'll still do better even considering ongoing TREB/OREA/brokerage fees. Need to spend $5k initially on courses/exams and 6-12months of time, but seems to make sense long term. Am I missing anything?

Additional Posts in In-House Counsel

[Legal Tech] Hi there. I practiced at a big law for a couple of years and now have been moved in-house with a focus on Legal Tech (dealing with platforms, social media - responsibilities, safe habour, Ts&Cs, e-money flow, etc) I really love the job now and finally find the path and passion. I do like working on legal tech matters a lots. Anyone on the same major? Please share your thoughts :) TIA

Me: Here are the redlines you asked for.

Sales: Oh, this is way too many redlines. This is actually a very very standard contract in my experience.

Been In-House for 2 years now. Doing primarily Employment Law. I was offered a position at one of the Big 4 L&E Law Firms at a smaller office, my salary would be exactly the same I make now. In house has been comfortable but it’s not that challenging and I’m debating if I should go back to a firm. What should I do? Has anyone went back to a firm from in house?

Thank you all! After about a year of on and off searching, and a bunch of posts here, I landed the in house job of my dreams. That’s it, just wanted to say thank you for your help along the way.

Could use some perspective from folks here! I joined as in-house counsel from V20 recently. When I interviewed for the position, the hiring manager explained the team structure and broadly gave me a career path in the company. The day I joined I learned of a long term secondee who’s around my same level that they’re planning on bringing in with the exact same job description as me. I feel extremely frustrated and had I known this before joining, I might have made a different decision. Contd.

I like my work and my boss but I keep getting hit up by recruiters offering more money. I know the grass is often not greener. I don’t want to give up a good situation based solely on better pay but it would be awesome to pay off my student loans and buy a house

Anybody have experience with in-house legal counsel roles at Handshake (LinkedIn competitor)? Specifically, employment counsel? I’m not applying currently, but eyeing the role to apply when it (hopefully) becomes available again, and I have at least another year of experience (in BL now, 4th year, in employment, benefits & comp).

I've recently applied to 3 positions (in the legal field, of course) at Deloitte. Could someone tell me how the interview process works and when should I expect to hear back from someone either way?

Actively interviewing for a new role and have been asked to submit a writing sample. What type of samples have you provided in the past? My formal writing samples are briefs, memos, etc from when I was at firms a few years ago.

Thoughts on retaliation complaint by an in-house lawyer who reported a title VII employee complaint about company founder to company’s outside employment counsel? Subsequently scolded by founder for not immediately notifying founder about complaint, then founder blocked access to legal files and threatened demotion to contracts role? Is there a retaliation claim available here by the in-house lawyer?

Thoughts on when a contract is silent as to whether liability is uncapped? We typically cap liability at contract price, but this particular heavyweight co. wants TCs accepted as is. Their terms disclaim consequential damages but there’s no language at all about whether it’s capped or uncapped. If a K is silent as to this, is it implied that both parties have agreed to uncapped? Or does it go to reasonableness standard?

Anyone have any insight on the comp ranges for counsel roles at the Professional Sports leagues? Do any of them actually pay well, or do they all rely on the “cool” factor to underpay?

How much would a 3rd year make at Google? Thinking of going in house and curious about Google in particular.

Has anyone ever regretted leaving a law firm to go in house?
