Any WARN experts out there? I was laid off and given 2 weeks severance. It seems like we have laid off more than 30% of our workforce over the past few months. Is there a way I can find out? I’m trying to understand when we should have been notified the 60 days in advance? Thanks!

Did it qualify under the WARN act? If it wasn’t considered a mass layoff or plant closure and there weren’t at least 100 full time employees, it probably didn’t qualify. I would suggest you visit the DOL website and read what the requirements are for the employer, to determine if there is a compliance issue.

The layoffs have to meet the percent of workforce requirements within a 30 day span. It’s likely your former employer planned these layoffs incrementally to avoid any compliance issues related to the WARN Act. Requirements may be more stringent depending on the state you’re in

Yep, this is exactly what I suspected while reading the post as well. OP; they probably kept this all in line on paper, but it can't hurt to check.

I was very successful as an internaional sales exec at a startup for 15 years before we were bought by a large publicly traded company. The culture shift was dramatic, as was the way that I was expected to work. I was laid off a tortuous 3 years after the buyout.

While I was in some ways relieved (put me out of my misery!) I spiralled pretty hard and after a while started working PT jobs, gig type stuff, etc. while I figured things out, and healed from burnout.

During the panny, my agency moved a handful of us to a different office with no choice. Basically said we’d be fired if we didn’t comply. When we asked if we would ever have to move to the new city, we were given no answers for months. Now, they’re saying back to office in September and I have a feeling they’ll be expecting us to move. Should I ask for money to move? I personally can’t afford to and told them from the start I can’t move. Also, I really don’t want to leave my S/O. Help!

My boss fired me because i ask for clarification on my employment right.

I got hired not long ago. I realise some of the employee benefits i was told (missing in the contract) contradict with what’s stated on the law. So i email the boss about it and ask for clarification. Immediately after the email i was fired.

Just want to make sure people know this and don’t apply jobs in this shady company- it is called UniQ Biotech, in Delta, BC, Canada

I recently requested Paid Family Leave. Still waiting for confirmation. But HR sent an email with employee handbook in email and asked to attest the receipt of it. Hello fellow HR pros! I really need your opinions on HR certifications. I am deciding between PHR and SHRM-cp. I have read just about all there is online comparing the two and can not decide. My heart is telling me PHR, my mother in law (an HRBP) is telling me to go with SHRM, as it’s more widely recognized, more established and a larger network in general. I work for a 350~ company who is growing rapidly through M&A. Passions/interests are compliance, strategic vision, M&A, branding and culture

I strongly believe new hire onboarding should not sit in the HR/People Operations space but should sit in the HR Coordinator/HR Generalist space. As a new hire, they should be able to have a confirmed point of contact especially during their first 90 days and People Ops should not be that point of contact unless there’s system or access issues.
