Currently in a long distance relationship, and this year me and my future fiancé are looking for a place to settle down. I’m in the west coast and she’s in the east coast. The most logical option is to move back to NYC but I’m not too excited about the work culture, weather, and work opportunity in tech. I resigned without any offer in hand because of a toxic work environment.

I cracked interviews and got selected, but things did not progress during negotiations.

My notice period is ending in 10 days, and recently an HR executive was surprised that I quit without any offers in hand and still don't hold any.

I am blessed to be financially stable enough to do this, but this person got me wondering if I made the right decision from a strategic POV.

Should I keep my new job or boomerang back to my old job? The new job pays 50K more base, 25K more bonus and I get 40K a year consulting for the old job so around 115K difference in cash (not counting equity).

So why even consider going back to the old job? The new job keeps me busy 12+ hours a day while the old job is a coast at 1-2 hours a day max.

My idea is not to enjoy the free time and sit on my *ss, but to figure out side gigs, passive income streams or even start a startup. (more)
