There are plenty of things to be suspicious of big pharma for (speculative treatments, drugs with ridiculous profit margins, taking advantage of IP laws), but SSRIs is not one of them. Research on SSRIs that is not funded by industry is the best place to look if you have questions about efficacy or side effects.
There was also tons of independent research on oxycodone. And that “helped” so many people.
I have been prescribed and not taking them. I have been using therapy, shifting to a more positive (or at least less doomsday) line of thinking, setting boundaries at work (more for anxiety) and started consuming the great flower and recently began experimenting with fungi. Still climbing the hill but making progress.
Of course do your research and make your own decision. But I trust Mother Nature more than Big pharma. Good luck and I hope you may find peace.

Maybe its because I'm old but missed the reference - what is the Great Flower?? Glad your approach is working! And recommendations for how you've managed to shift your line of thinking you be more positive and habituate it?
I think if my depression ever got to a place where I truly could not function or I was considering harming myself or in some other type of desperate situation I would take them. But I found the side effects to be far too extreme to outweigh my depression. Just swapped depression with debilitating anxiety, aggression, etc. Fully support anyone taking them to help themselves, but I do think you need to make a pros and cons list. I have issues with big pharma as well but I don’t think this is an area where they are as much against us. I do wish badly they would invest in more research to provide a wider variety of options though.
I cannot imagine a life with good QOL without my medication.
It sounds like because you attribute your depression to a specific cause, therapy would help you significantly.
Meds are just one tool in your toolbox.
Hard to not be depressed when you’re physically disabled. I’ve accepted I can’t ever be happy since I don’t have a body.
So what are the alternatives that you're using to treat your depression?
lol Understandable

I’ve been using a CES (Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation) device for about a year for depression and it’s worked really well with zero side effects.
What brand do you use ? They seem very expensive
I agree with SC1. I won’t take SSRIs. The side effects are not worth it. I take anti anxiety pills instead and go to therapy and I’ve accepted that depression will always be lurking.
And thanks for posting, OP. I thought I was alone.
I don’t know if this helps but Mikhaila Peterson also suffered from autoimmune disorders and depression. She is healing now through very strict diet changes. Doesn’t mean that it helps for everyone, but maybe it’s worth a look into. Apparently she helped many people with similar issues.

All the best!
Check exercises for vagus nerve.
What about “plant medicine” / psychedelics?
“How to change your mind” was mind opening. Microdosing has been a game changer to help heel the root of depression vs SSRIs addressing the symptoms
