Anybody have any insight into Grant Thornton’s tax office in Dallas?

Nice office. Partnership heavy.

Lots of workaholics. Technically, I've heard good things, but i don't work with them too often.

My impression is that they're much heavier in partnerships (2 partners and one MD with fully staffed team all the way down) and states. The two biggest tax clients in Dallas are both partnerships. From the outside, that group has a reputation of being very close knit.

SALT is respectably sized top to bottom (whereas Houston has all managers plus a director and no one else). Used to have a MD and partner, but that partner moved back to his original state. Now, it's just the MD. ITS is small and hasn't quite recovered from when a partner left about 5 or 6 years ago. They have a team, but Houston is much deeper there.

Office as a whole is about 400 strong (all 3 service lines). They're in a fairly nice building on an upper floor. Only thing is...., not a fan of their restroom. The doors.... are fanned!? I haven't been back in a while, but the doors were awful.

Hi All! I recently started my own Private Equity firm. Searching for any big do’s, dont’s, or hard lessons you learned along the way. Do any veteran entrepreneurs/PE partners or staff members have advice they would like to pass down? I know early on in my consulting career there are many things I wish I could go back and tell myself.

As always, thank you all! 🐟

This might be a long shot but I'm looking for a volunteer who is trying to break into a federal career. Maybe a transitioning veteran, recent grad, or career-changer.

I'm pursuing my master career coaching cert and need to do a recorded 45-minute session. You don't have to be identified if you don't want to.

The single session is all I'm asking but could certainly turn into a longer lasting coaching relationship (at no cost), if you like.

How soon do you usually let the teams know that you are looking for other opportunities? Do you let them know when you are interviewing or when you have an offer in hand? Assuming you have a good relationship with the team.

Ok fishbowl family - I need advice. Rising senior 1 here and realizing that I genuinely get no joy out of audit. I’m way too stressed and really do not care about accounting and have made it a life goal to never book a journal entry. I want to take the next year to figure out what my dream job is and go for it. Here’s what I like: I love talking to people, mentoring & teaching, organizing, learning. I literally loved everything in college- I was between majoring in accounting or psychology. 1/X

Need advice. I’m in industry now and report to Controller who reports to CFO. I found out my raise is 2.75% and brought it up to my boss and he said “that’s what everyone is getting as raises are based on market, not inflation, and your salary is within market range”. I have a skip level meeting with the CFO tomorrow and want to mention it’s the smallest raise I’ve ever gotten or some other comment to bring it to his attention. How do I phrase that in a professional manner?

When is a good time to leave Big 4? Is there really such a thing as leaving too late?

Do you tell people you’re interviewing with you’ve quit your job with nothing lined up? I was speaking with a 3rd-party recruiter and they mentioned to not tell them and that it’s a red flag. Feels dishonest and weird (not sure why it’s a red flag too).

I’ve been entertaining calls from recruiters, both industry and accounting / consulting firms, and found basically none can match the comp I have now as a new SM3. Anyone else running into this?

Have an opportunity to work for my family’s small manufacturing company, which is doing very well. I’m 4.5 years into my career working as a SOX analyst (previously external auditor), and I’m not sure accounting is for me in the long run. I want to put in my 2 weeks notice on Monday but my RL is out of office until Tuesday. I feel like I need to tell him before I formally put in notice. Should I wait? The job I’m on is unbearable and I have zero motivation to work knowing I’m leaving. Also I’m leaving for another big 4 consulting group so I know that I won’t have to actually work the two weeks, so motivation is at a -10
