I make much more than that and average 40hrs a week. I used to work much more. I found that most of my time over 40 was generally non-value added activity. Evaluate your schedule and activities, cut away all of the things that don’t actually matter, and learn that it is OK to say no.
More than 250,000 AUD on 40 hours - never go to the office - live near a surf beach - come to vendor land.
I run a solutions engineering team for one of our lines of business. It’s more pre-sales and solution design.
Im not going to share what product or industry focus.
I have a colleague that does more than 150k working less than 20 a week 🤬 the bastard steals all my deliverables and then goes to the gym 🤷🏻♂️
$270Kish and rarely work more than 40. Hiring a good team and delegating is key. Leaving for a higher paying job where I'll work more because I'm kinda bored.
Innovation mostly.
People don’t understand that the higher salaries are outside of consulting.
I’m transitioning to investment banking technologies, these are my last months here
👋🏻
How many YOE
Learn how to say no
A manager on my project does it, but it sits closer to 45 (although VERY rarely over). Makes about $150-$160k.
1) works local so no travel hassles
2) shuts down work phone and tosses it in a safe on weekends
3) Friday’s end at 2-3 if it can be helped
4) has a great team around them (if I do say so myself) and let’s them manage the day to day. Meets with them twice a week and gets a quick need to know download of it all. Plus, works closely with an SC that boils it up if necessary
I make 115k. Bill 40. Actual time spent on work is about 10 for my current project 🤷🏻♂️
Federal
About 450 total comp (base, bonus, equity), rarely work more than 40, often a little less. Some travel (20-30%). Leave consulting for industry - way better. As someone said above, work smart, hire a good team, delegate. Let also it be said that my team also works 40h/week, so you don’t think I’m just killing them at my expense.
Sorry OW1 - wish my team had headcount, but doesn’t look like that’s happening anytime soon. We aren’t a revenue generating group, so harder to get growth investment.
I was doing analytics in electric utilities company, and I barely worked 15-20 hours a week while showing up for 40 hours. However I was the only technical expert so that helps, plus I do things much more quickly than others. It gets extremely boring and political quickly tho.
I make about 100k and work pretty much 40 hrs a week, but the growth potential in my field is pretty limited so I’m looking to switch out.
Right on the cusp. Boutique firm, autonomous group.
OP, you are new to consulting, right?
I do, but only after making the case for a MSA. I have great work/life balance. It's definitely possible.
i typically work no more than that (except during go-live) and make more ($130k-190k/yr depending on hours worked) but i’m an epic consultant and i’m hourly. it can be a lonely life though. sometimes i’m the only consultant on a project. it can be nice not having to deal with any internal bullshit, like firm initiatives or whatever, but i don’t make money when i’m not working, i don’t have great benefits, and depending on the customer, i might be doing staff aug/PMO work. truly interesting managerial/strategy roles are super hard to come by because most clients prefer to keep that in house, even if quality suffers. travel can also be brutal, but that’s not unique to my situation.
the grass is always greener. i get this sounds awesome to some people, but there’s a part of me that wishes i built the sort of socio-professional capital that you can build by being a part of a real company and slogging through the bullshit with everyone else.
150k and I’m capped at 40 hours
By leaving consulting 🤙
Yup, simply by leaving consulting. Since I didn't want the stress of making partner, growth opportunities are equal too, if not better.
Yep - LS Tech. Minimal travel because I live in NE region and have built up an awesome offshore team and keep them happy
