👶🏻 🐠 here, What mistakes/pitfalls have you made in your career that you wish had been avoided? What should a new generation of consultants look out for?

My manager has a must respond to my emails within 2 hours rule. Sometimes she sends them at 8pm. 3 of my team associates decided to reported her to HR for it. These new hires have no chill anymore in this economy.

I consider myself a gen xer. I feel that in the past, longevity and loyalty to a company was the trend. Now, i see ppl with resumes and they stay for less than a year in a job and change jobs constantly. The younger generation and are so eager to move up the ladder. I wonder if the move up is too fast and is really justified. Or perhaps the younger generation feels a lot more entitled and are more aggressive. Thoughts?

HELP! I just got a BCG consultant offer. PwC paid for my MBA. I still need to work here for 3 more years before not owing any of it back (currently would have to pay 100% of it if I left). Is the move worth it? Or should I maybe push to move to Strategy& (internal move) instead of BCG?

Is it unprofessional, politically incorrect, or a micro-aggression to ask an Indian coworker if they celebrate Diwali? The intention is just to say happy Diwali, but I’m not sure if that’s the same as asking someone their religion, which can sometimes be seen as rude.

Who is happy with their WLB to pay ratio? What’s your firm, YOE, and position, and total comp?

Is there a difference between 250k salary and 400k salary? Both salaries are watching spiderman on opening night. Both salaries have food on the table and a roof over their heads. One has a 65in tv vs the other has 75in. One drives a BMW the other a Tesla. I make around 250k and to increase my salary I will have to work a lot more. Is it really worth having more money, at some point it is just a number and quality of life doesn't improve. In fact it could be worse with the extra hours.

McKinsey and Bain 🐠, do you feel like your firm values you? I really like consulting, but I’m considering a switch since BCG’s culture is somewhat toxic.

I have been in consulting 3yrs and I feel like I have been on “Fast Forward mode". Isn’t it crazy how we can spend most of our day in meetings, day after day, and your life just passes by so fast?

I had a final round with a company on Monday that ended at 8pm EST. I had interviews with 5 partner level individuals who then come together to make yes/no. I sent follow ups after the interviews. I haven’t heard back yet, when do you think I should follow up again with the recruiter?
