I’m 25/F, recently came out to my mother as gay and she was not receptive. I decided to send a message to my father and sisters to tell them next, and got crickets. I have a wonderful girlfriend and was so excited to share it with them, and it hurts to not have their support. I feel lucky that I have wonderful friends who do support me though. Is anyone weirded out by the number of posts bashing the PV gays? To be clear I don’t support going out and partying rn, but I feel like the first 5 posts I see on every social media platform (here, tiktok, Instagram, etc.) are making fun of the PV gays, even some by straight people/not explicitly queer accounts that especially don’t sit well with me.

When did queer become ok to say & why? I played “Smear the Queer" as a kid/had no idea what it meant; now I find it as offensive as the N-word. Why “take back” a word instead of just not using it?
