Anybody know any good books/sources on couples finance or balancing financial mentalities? I have a personal finance mentality or character that is save as much as possible, spend as little on myself as possible, spend mainly on things that could appreciate in value. Whereas my gf is all about treating oneself, and living very comfortably, even if it is not sustainable. It doesn't help as well that I make 3-4x what she makes. Its hard to balance these two mentalities

Check out the “I will reach you to be rich” podcast. The host interviews couples about their perspectives on money and there are a lot of episodes with this type of situation.

Would be great to draw the gf into this somehow, since at this point it seems like you would just be furthering your tendencies without addressing hers?
Gotta recommend couples counseling here, for this or any other hot-button issues that commonly can lead to breakup and are hard to work through alone. And fighting over money is #1 breakup reason. Sounds like you're not fighting about it yet -- all the more reason to do the counseling *now*.

Probably not the right bowl. I have $240k in my savings account, recently became a father of 3 and my wife left her job so now one income. I make $215k base. Monthly expenses prob around $6.5k including my mortgage. Home equity somewhere around $200k. I've never been good at investing (always losing money in the market). Want to move to a bigger home but don't want to lose my cash cushion. How can I conservatively grow my net worth? Vague question but any help appreciated. BTW I'm 33.

I’m making more money and am torn on what to do with the extra monthly income. 1) follow Dave Ramsey’s Baby Steps (modified slightly) -OR- 2) Purchase another house (either flip or rent out). I have a rental pro currently, but my parents rent from me so this new one would need to be more involved as a landlord. I have family in construction that can advise with any remodel if needed. If I go with the 2nd option, I would still go through the baby steps, it would just set me back 5 years.

CHANGE MY MIND: 25Y, salary 80k, 25k in HYSA, max roth, contributing to 401K. I’m currently living with my parent (free) since the pandemic started and moving across the country whenever it’s back to “normal”. But I miss having my own place, and looking at a $1500/m apartment for max 6 months. I know it’s not a financially good idea since I can keep living for free but I don’t like being at home(miss having my own place). I would be saving like $1500 each month but it could be $3k!

Anyone ever have experience negotiating a new offer to include unvested 401k match and stock grants from your current employer? I hate leaving money on the table but there are some good roles out there. I’m not fully vested in my current 401k yet and my stock grants haven’t matured yet either. This would be at a global director level.

Would you rather get broken up with at the start of a 4 week vacation /kontiki tour, or after you return

I need to end things, it hasn't been going on long, but the one option feels like ending it on their birthday and the other feels like letting them spend even more time getting invested (while I keep getting pictures sigh)

Seeking advice on 401k: Recently joined PwC and initially was planning to transfer prev 401k into PwC’s so that I have the option to back door/mega in the future but seems like that won’t be an option anymore. With that said, should I:
1) Just roll over current balance into Vanguard IRA (and potentially convert to Roth IRA). PwC’s investment options aren’t great! 2) Consolidate into PwC 401k
With the passage of bill still uncertain, I’m not sure what to do.

Son’s 2nd birthday coming up.. thinking of opening a custodial account for him and buy a couple hundred dollars worth of a SP500 index fund and continue doing that on subsequent birthdays. I think it will be cool for him to see all the purchase dates fall on his birthdays and teach him about long term investment

Considering where real estate is, I'm trying to decide what to do...

I bought a townhouse at the bottom of the market in 2011 for 230k. Still owe about 150k, and currently worth about 500-530k.

I moved out last August after getting married but I didn't sell since I knew I could, and am, renting for about $800/month more than it costs me all in.

I believe I have another year to decide if I want to sell and make use of primary residence exclusion from cap gains on sale.

Do I sell or hold?
