Anybody know if Bain Capital allows Associates in NYC office?ls? LinkedIn profiles I’ve found seem to have it but it’s not clear (I.e., location beneath headshot is NYC but job with Bain Capital has no location). Thoughts on them? Berkshire? Advent? Have heard Bain has struggled recently

They historically have not. Advent will take a few in nyc but likes to keep them in Boston. Things may have changed with the pandemic but I doubt it

I'm fairly sure all of Berkshire is in Boston - in fact in the same building as Bain Capital

Ahh! To the second part of your question - I was in Boston for PE before moving. Keep in mind that this is still all purely anecdotal, but my observation was that the Berkshire associates had quite reasonable work life balances (my personal litmus test was going to events with PEAB or nonprofit mixers with lots of PE folks - if I saw a fair number of a firm's associates there, at the very least, their firm respected outside commitments). I'm not sure I could say the same about Advent (again, I'm sure it's team and deal dependent)

The San Diego Zoos 2020 Audited FS (CohnReznick) excludes a disclaimer of opinion, and gives a fully unmodified opinion, however the balance sheet shows a $1 balance for all revenue producing zoological assets with a disclosure explaining there is no objective basis for establishing value, however Sea World does have their aquarial assets on their Balance Sheet. Plus the SD Zoo uses ZIMS to track all their animals, including all attributes (ages, sex etc) which the fs says is not possible. WTF

Does anyone know someone who was placed on a pip who then found a way to get on medical leave so could apply to jobs while still employed? (Idea being that you greatly extend your opportunity to look for jobs while still being able to say you’re at current firm. Example: Person gets 1 month pip, gets medical leave, then is able to look for new jobs for many months rather than 1 month. If you don’t know anyone, any opinions on how this could work?

After your first job, how relevant is GPA. For context, I went to a school that is very well known for grade deflation (Deloitte had a “suggested” minimum of 3.2 here) and I studied statistics, a particularly rough major at the school. Long story short, GPA was between a 2.9 and 3.0. This wasn’t due to slacking and I’ve done well at Deloitte so far with plenty of experience to speak to. Would my GPA still block me from certain firms, like any of the MBB firms or a Tier 2 consulting firm?

What type of self help strategies do individuals actually find helpful when you feel burn out or stuck in a rut? Any books, apps, meditation, podcasts, etc, others find helpful? I've done therapy and it has definitely helped this past year with covid and a marriage separation, starting to feel like I'm making progress and want to keep up the momentum. Looking to see what type of self help others find actually beneficial and would love to use that to help others stuck in burn out too

Our office manager is on the hunt for a time tracking and invoicing system to replace our current solution. I know how much everyone here enjoys time sheets, so I thought I'd seek some input and direction. Core needs are: web-based, intuitive for all user levels, ability to select resources per project and customize rates on a per-project basis, and customization of tasks/activities per project. For $10 or less per month per user. Are they looking for a unicorn? Is there a fix out there?
