Anybody with aging parents that can share their stories? My mother lives alone far from me and although she seems good now I don’t know what to expect over the next decade or so and already starting to feel helpless. Any live in parents or guilt trips to help me prepare? Thanks!

You should post this in the Indian bowl 😀. But jokes apart, as some who came here many years ago, I deal with this guilt and fear and sense of helplessness all the time. Not sure I have an answer but just want to let you know that there are many like you. Tough spot and my best wishes to your mom and cheers to her health!

I’m in a similar boat. If you have somewhat stability in your life at the moment, consider living with her or having her live close to you. Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed and we all have an expiry date. Try to make the most out of what you have right now and be with each other. Be grateful she’s still here and make some reasonable sacrifices. There’s always something “extra” we can always get out there - a promotion, a better job, a cooler life during the weekends. You can’t get your mom back once they’re gone, cherish the time you get with her while you still have that chance.

How far away are they? I have a Grandmom that can take care of smaller daily living tasks alone despite not being very mobile, and I/my family will go visit for a weekend every other month or so to help with larger tasks and give her company. She also outsources a lot of manual tasks like housekeeping and yard work. So basically.. there’s usually ways to help even if you and/or your family don’t live down the street from your mom.

Feeling like my firm has a very outdated parental leave policy (and none of the women partners have children)! What is the parental leave policy at your firm? Please include: (1) size of firm; (2) location of firm (city, state); (3) how many paid weeks off from firm (not state/fed benefits); (4) other policies such as ramp up/down time, etc.

I know this probably not the best bowl but I’m curious to hear about potential gift ideas for my wife’s upcoming birthday? She’s currently 7 months pregnant and since we’re all still WFH it is what’s making this more challenging given the usual choices of excursions / shoes / clothes etc not really good options.

I think my 2yr old son is having severe social anxiety issues… he is perfectly fine at home, playing and laughing and talking. But outside especially when other people get closer to him (especially small kids at his age) he immediately freaks out, becomes very anxious, and would try to flee the scene as soon as possible. Ever since he’s a baby we take him to play ground everyday and he is still the same. Any moms experienced the same?

For those eligible for the child tax credit advance payment when did you get the letter with your estimated payment amount? I didn't get the July payment or a letter so I checked the IRS site which said pending eligibility, likely because they are still sitting on my timely efiled straightforward 2020 return. Then today, I get the letter from POTUS saying the IRS estimates I'll get $800 starting July 15 (nope). Checked online again and still pending.
