Honestly, planes have amazing filtration systems. Tell them to avoid using the bathroom and taking their mask off to eat.
In the airport, sit away from people.
Can you get your hands on an n95? May want to get one each for travel.
Also - maybe fly delta so there is no middle seat taken?

I’ve been on 6 US domestic flights between early July and late October. No issues. Same goes for everyone else I know. I understand wanting to take precautions, but people gotta chill. Just be smart about it

If you google “studies of contracting covid on an airplane” you’ll see there’s been lots of simulations done, and they all show airplanes are actually pretty safe when it comes to covid!! Your chances of contracting something seem pretty slim according to the data, so I wouldn’t worry too much if I were you! Just get a filtered mask like an N95 and I’m sure you’ll be fine😊

My dad, 69, went to the Netherlands, Israel, Turkey, and he is all right

Planes seem to be relatively safe as long as people follow safety precautions
My mom has flown up to San Francisco several times to see my sister. She is still, currently, alive and well.
The flight itself is fine. Riskier activities are eating indoors in the airport, big crowds in airports, public transportation to/from airport.
My in-laws have been on 8 domestic flights (4 round trips) since Aug and have been fine. They take all precautions (N95, no eating, etc) and bought first class so they’d have more distancing in the cabin
I know like 10 individuals who are over 65 who have flown during this time - a few with medical histories that could put them at risk. 100% mask compliance and no eating or drinking at the airport - they have been okay. No one got the virus. Wouldn’t recommend it but they seemed to be okay.
Parents have flown. They just wore N95 masks on the plane and mentioned they never felt uncomfortable / unsafe. Take the proper precautions, everything should be fine.

My dad has taken 3 round trip international flights and has been ok. I have also taken an international trip and was ok. And my siblings have taken domestic flights without an issue. I haven’t heard of any flights being a super spreader event. I have only seen gatherings (weddings, birthdays) called out. I think flying is still relatively safe as long as you wear a mask. And if people around you seem to have symptoms, ask to be reseated or to be placed on a diff flight (obviously before the doors close).
Thank you all!! This makes me feel so much better ... checked this at 4:30 am in the morning , so you can all see my stress level around this , cannot sleep. I need to relax and have positive thoughts about all this !!
I completely stopped all air travel in March. Going crazy! Meanwhile, my 85-year old mother-in-law just traveled on plane from New York to Florida. For a personal trip!! 🙄She is fine. I hear it is safe.

The risk with travel isn't the flying itself (although you are accepting some increased risk with that), it's with what happens before and after the travel. And the potential spread across populations.
you think the snowbirds drove? Lol
Don’t worry! There are very strict measures put in place. There literally have been zero known cases of mass community spread on planes. Every person I know that has flown is fine. I think the problem is what people are doing while they are traveling (ex: flying to Miami and going clubbing
every night, then returning to NYC and not getting tested) . I’ve noticed that people are extremely judgemental about people flying right now, but driving anywhere to go on a trip is perfectly acceptable.
