Anyone a lifer at any of their firms? Honestly believe that everyone is just using their time at firm as stepping stone, and don't see how you can stay on as a lifer...

Been here 10 years.... hopefully I will never have to switch B/D's again.... too disruptive... I'd rather spend more time with my clients than go through that again. That said ... of course my B/D is not perfect so sometimes I just deal with it but other times I proactively try to influence change in the way they are doing something...

Plenty of people at my firm are lifers. Too hard to move your book and why bother?

Lifer. Been here since i grsduated college. In my 18th year.

I've switched BDs 5 times and finally found the right fit for me. I cannot say I will never leave, but truly think I am in the right spot for what I want professionally.

If my BD changes their values or value proposition to me or my clients, then I will review again.

What's the most effective way for a small RIA to recruit FAs who have a few years experience, want to break away from large/corporate firms? I'm a $70M fee-only (commissions for insurance) independent RIA with a generous comp schedule that enables FAs to own their own book while they grow. As the owner, my focus is to help FAs succeed; as a firm, our focus is on client service and helping them succeed. I can afford a small salary, but not benefits. I'm especially interested in female FAs.

Does anyone put money in VAs for a business client? What are the PROS/CONS/DIFFERENCES? Scenario: 5 doctors want principle protection first and growth of principle second. Each doctor is 20% vested. The business is cash rich and time horizon is 3 to 5 years. Thoughts/Advice welcome. I already have the potential company/product with no surrender period so I don’t need referrals but I’m thinking there will be at least one person who only reads part of this post and referred me anyway. :-( TIA

Edward Jones advisor with 30 million AUM and roughly 250k gross production. Been there for almost 4 years. Got an offer at Merrill Lynch to take over a 100 million dollar retirement transition plan in 5 years, or to join a 5 person Merrill Lynch team that manages a lot.

Pros to EJ: Have my own office, a year or two away from partnership, great office setting and client satisfaction.

Pros to Merrill: Bump in compensation, additional tools and services w banking, ability to take over assets.
