You don’t need a LoA to begin seeing a therapist but you also don’t need to wait to be on a verge of a breakdown to take a LoA. You may wish to ask your therapist if they would support you in the event you took a LoA (need medical proof that you are disabled if you want a paid leave). I took a LoA and don’t regret it one bit.
Pls feel free to talk to me in private. I have struggled with this for a very long time and finally I’ve been able to take control of my anxiety/ depression. :)
The problem is this issue is not one that goes for good after a short while. Within days of coming back you will be back to square one. They’ll ding you for having taken leave too. Companies are not all that kind to their disabled employees.
Try to develop coping skills around this and ask for what you need to change, in place.
The Hartford sucks. I’m going through this process now and just got denied. Going to appeal because they don’t have information from one of my providers yet never told me. However, my provider told me they had been faxing everything except the medical forms because it required payment from The Hartford. Because they hadn’t paid, the information was never released. The clock ran out and my claim got denied.
I’m fuming because The Hartford is at fault here for dragging their feet and letting the clock run out! Now I’m having to scramble to get the necessary information while also figuring out how I’m gonna pay my bills in a couple weeks.
