When did it hit you that working in the Big 4 is a dirty political game? That everyone smiles in your face but they would all put a knife in your back at any given moment if expedient for them?

Went out on a date and was called a loser. I told her I appreciated everything in my life & now I’m a manager in big 4 and I’m happy with my life. She told me “you are only a manager in big 4 and how can you be happy? you should be working in the weekend to get to a better firm or at least be a senior manager at this age (33 yo). I’m really mad now.

I thought that too of some of the middle eastern and Caribbean island managers I worked with on a job once, but they turned out to be the most supportive and inquisitive. But I feel ya, sometimes you can sense if they'll be hostile toward you. But I don't give af at this point. In the end, they're still professionals working for Big 4 and probably won't dare say anything to you about it, even if it does bother them. Way I see it, ignorant people like that don't go very far working in our industry.

Been trying to figure out why a lot of agencies & other senior creatives are not interested in having people “of a certain age” come in at maybe a level below where they should be. For example, I’m almost 30 years in. ECD at most agencies, won all the requisite awards, led departments, could be a CCO at a smaller or “rebuilding” shop. This is a common theme considering everything that happened in 2020, but how do you manage when your personal life falls apart? I’m facing the breakup of an engagement and everything feels impossible. I’m still working from home which probably makes it worse. I can’t even get out of bed to feed myself let alone bill 8 hours a day. I’m not very busy right now either, so instead of having a lot of work to distract me I’m desperately trying to piece together smaller projects to add up to 8 hours.
