Yes, I have done it two times. My I-140 was approved at company A and PD wasn't current. I switched to company B after working 6 years at company A. Company B applied for me PERM & I-140. I got my PD of approved I-140 with company A ported to company B. Same process after I joined company C and same PD ported to company C approved I-140.
All I can say is that this is a mind numbing process to apply for PERM and anxiously wait that a lawyer or his assistant doesn't screw up your case. So there is lot of anxiety and stress involved while PERM is in progress and I-140 is approved. But as long as you have competent lawyers filing paperwork all this is routine. Best Luck!

Your priority date has to do with WHEN you make that change. After I-140 has been APPROVED for 180 days, your priority date is kept no matter whether you stay at the same company.
