Anyone contemplated moving to part time specifically while pregnant to help manage the exhaustion and inability to work usual consulting hours? Part time while pregnant theoretically makes sense but then I assume I am also cutting my mat leave benefits to part time too? It’s rough like I don’t feel like there are any real options to support me during my pregnancy.... experiences??

How long have you been at BCG? I don’t think you cut your mat leave benefits by going on flex time ! You will accrue tenure more slowly ... but I believe that’s it

I’ve never done it, so I don’t know for sure - but our mat leave policy is pretty generous ... so you should definitely check with HR. No harm in asking 😊 happy to help you if I can!

I’m 21w along now and know what you mean. Rather than going part time, I’m taking this opportunity to practice setting and keeping firm boundaries. I talk to my team, let them know how I’m feeling and tell them what I need. A few boundaries I’ve found helpful:

• no work on weekends, except ~2hrs Sunday night to plan the week for the team

• no work before 8AM or after 10PM on weekdays to ensure I can get enough sleep

• each team member (EM+3) takes a planned night off during the week, where we pull together to help make sure that person’s work is covered and that by 6:30, they know that they will have a free evening

Leadership is totally onboard, it’s created a great environment in the team, and no matter how crunched we get, we don’t let these norms drop!!! (Once you let PNO go once, it’s easy to cancel it again. The trick to making this work is everyone actually, consistently taking it!) We’re also laser-focused on controlling scope, which helps create space for these practices. This is one of the most positive and productive teams I’ve ever been on because the people are so happy and it translates over to our client too.

I hope that perhaps something like this could help you keep your paycheck vs. going part-time? Your team should be accommodating what you need as long as you are asking them for it!! 💗

EM1 I agree, good boundaries to have even if not pregnant. Regularly working excessive hours isn’t good for anyone

Anyone had experience promotion during/after pregnancy? I’m working in a team I love and planning to get pregnant. But last week, my boss quit which throws me to an awkward position. If my boss didn’t quit, I have high chance to get promoted at the end of year. But now, everything is uncertain. If I don’t get promoted this year, I prob won’t next year bc I will take a lot of maternity leave. Need some advice here.

I’ve been with company for a little over 3 years as a Talent Acquisition Specialist. There’s been recent changes within Leadership that has caused everyone to leave, except myself. My workload has increased and I’ve taken on a bulk of the work as we rebuild our team. All recent hires on my team, same role as me, has been receiving a much higher salary. Of course the market has changed since I’ve been here however, the newbies are reaping the benefits of it. How should I request for a raise?
