I’m 21w along now and know what you mean. Rather than going part time, I’m taking this opportunity to practice setting and keeping firm boundaries. I talk to my team, let them know how I’m feeling and tell them what I need. A few boundaries I’ve found helpful: • no work on weekends, except ~2hrs Sunday night to plan the week for the team • no work before 8AM or after 10PM on weekdays to ensure I can get enough sleep • each team member (EM+3) takes a planned night off during the week, where we pull together to help make sure that person’s work is covered and that by 6:30, they know that they will have a free evening Leadership is totally onboard, it’s created a great environment in the team, and no matter how crunched we get, we don’t let these norms drop!!! (Once you let PNO go once, it’s easy to cancel it again. The trick to making this work is everyone actually, consistently taking it!) We’re also laser-focused on controlling scope, which helps create space for these practices. This is one of the most positive and productive teams I’ve ever been on because the people are so happy and it translates over to our client too. I hope that perhaps something like this could help you keep your paycheck vs. going part-time? Your team should be accommodating what you need as long as you are asking them for it!! 💗

EM1 I agree, good boundaries to have even if not pregnant. Regularly working excessive hours isn’t good for anyone

How long have you been at BCG? I don’t think you cut your mat leave benefits by going on flex time ! You will accrue tenure more slowly ... but I believe that’s it

I’ve never done it, so I don’t know for sure - but our mat leave policy is pretty generous ... so you should definitely check with HR. No harm in asking 😊 happy to help you if I can!

Hey moms, How do you usually split up work after a baby with partner? We’ll have parent’s support for a good long time and I know that might mean we could slack and then rudely be awakened by reality after they leave in a few months. So want to make sure both husband and I are part of it right from the beginning. E.g: should I be thinking of asking the husband to get into the habit of putting baby to sleep every night? Etc.

How do you know when you have enough money? I got laid off in the spring, but don’t feel a pressing need to get a new job right away. Have 3 rental properties, all paid off, get about $3k/mth net from that, have about $200k in a 401k and another $200k in more-liquid investments. I spend less than $2k/mth and feel happy and comfortable. Not married and no kids... but would like that one day, so thinking of maybe saving some more money for that. Anyone been in a similar situation? Any advice?

having a really hard time getting my 3 yo boy (very smart, energetic, somewhat spoiled) to be better to his 11 month old brother (very mellow, sweet and smiley). my toddler will scream in the baby's face, slap him, and today grabbed him so hard by the neck that the baby fell forward onto his face. Ashamed that I was so upset I slapped my toddler after (once, not hard). I try giving the toddler plenty of attention. Baby is now scared of his older brother. Has anyone gone through this?

I have PCOS, so getting pregnant has not been straightforward. We are about 6 months into trying and I am on some drugs to help. My husband basically blames me for not being pregnant yet and routinely says I am a ‘mess’ for not understanding my cycle, even though I am going by what the doctors tell me. I haven’t been stressed by having PCOS, but his constant remarks are really getting to me

I work with several people with kids and I have noticed quite often that they completely disregard any issues of people with no kids and try to one up work life imbalance conversations with stories of them being parents. It must be hard being a parent but I don’t think people at work should be treated differently or given any additional consideration just because they have a kid. You already get parental leave so If I’m expected to work 12hr I ask the same to be expected from my peers with kids.
