I'm drowning in one-off business logic or planning requests ever since the last shuffle of devs. I'm the most senior, and def know the most, but on a team where our devs wear many hats, it means that I don't get to code nearly as much as I want to.

I was worried that because I couldn’t find another project, I would get laid off so I found J2, which pays more, is very meeting heavy, but I really like. Folks, need some insights. In 2020, I opened a tradition IRA to fund a Roth IRA. The 6k that went into traditional IRA was immediately converted to Roth IRA. This happened before the deadline hit after I had filed taxes for 2019. The brokerage has sent me 1099-R showing this “distribution” for 2020 I.e. the 1099-R is a 2020. I’m seriously considering starting up a solo shop. I have a very reliable stream of business (family friend has one patent that was infringed multiple times, huge firms have taken a few of these on contingency). Pros: I don’t have law school debt; I could follow these large firm’s general trajectory in prosecuting these cases; high risk tolerance (no kids, mortgage, etc). Cons: I’m inexperienced generally (class of 2019), and not familiar with patent law specifically. Thoughts?

Clawback clause in current contract: been in role for over 2 yrs, it was an internal move that required relocation. Relocation was approved shortly after (over 2 yrs ago) but covid meant the actual move and start of my contract with new subsidiary was delayed, I was paid by the previous subsidiary meanwhile. I just was promoted to Operations Manager and was offered a salary increase to 85k. Based off of my research this is very low based on comps and the economy. I recently (within 6 months) transitioned to a new role at my job which was supposed to be a promotion. But they've just been having me audit and haven't finalized my new job duties.
