Don’t. Tell them you have covid.

Why isn’t this an automatic take sick day(s) situation? Can any partners comment on what you’d like an associate to do in this case? I am a securities/M&A associate so I understand the demands of closing time etc. but the fact that an associate has to ask “what should I do” is preposterous to me. Is this an industry problem or an associate problem? Also OP - very sorry to hear it and really hope you feel better. Take sick days and if they don’t like it, you shouldn’t be working there.

like

I'm assuming the OP meant working remotely. But even if not spreading infection at the office there's still a risk of making errors when working sick.

Don’t work. Rest. Get medical evaluation and care. Tell the folks you’re working with what’s going on.

The fact that this is a dilemma at all is an indictment on the law firm industry. Take care of you, first. Period. God forbid any of us befall an ill-timed fate, our law firm employers will move on and replace us without so much as batting an eye. We will be footnotes, if that. Why let them have that much control over your life that you feel you must work through your COVID infection and recovery to show face and prove your dedication. That’s literally crazy.

Thank you - my thoughts exactly

For the love of god tell your coworkers and take sick days. I know it’s different, but I know a guy who died of a heart attack at work. It’s not worth it. We can get someone to cover and call you as (if) needed.

Oh my god. Please take a sick day(s).

Unfortunately I dealt with a similar situation in summer 2020 (sans vaccination). I felt really sick and told my team, their response was basically “oh no, that’s too bad! We gotta get this deal signed though and looping someone in would be inconvenient.” I lateraled since then🤷🏼‍♀️

OMFG. Glad you left.

I was in a Zoom trial when I came down with COVID last October (husband is medical and it was bound to happen). I felt awful. We were able to give some of my duties to other associates, so I didn’t have to pull off the normal trial hours. I worked like 10 hour days and slept almost every other minute of the day. I’m convinced I would have recovered more quickly if I was able to take days off.

like

Take your sick days. Tell your team and then go to bed. Hope you feel better soon.

I’m in a similar position and I’m mainly not working this week. I’ve told the partners I’m working with and some of the clients. Everyone is being helpful. I can still access my emails so when there’s stuff only I have knowledge of, I am replying, but other associates are helping with the leg work this week. I thought I’d be able to continue working as normal but in reality I can’t and no one is expecting me to. Transactional big law FYI.

like

Good. Take care of yourself.

like

If you come in sick to work, you’re not going to be capable of doing good work for your clients AND you could get others in your firm sick, which would only affect more clients. I’m not even mentioning the problems if you’re hospitalized, permanently disabled by long-haul COVID, or die. If your firm wants you to keep working anyway, not only is it a shit firm that no one should work for (let alobe die for), but it’s also making shitty business decisions.

Tell them you have covid. And take off work

Met this guy 4 weeks ago. He lives 4 hours away and has already been down to see me twice and stayed at the hotel for 2 nights each time. Pays for every date even though I offer to pay. He is awesome and I really like him! However, he was traveling for work last week so our communication went from checking in everyday to one 15 min call middle of the week. He joined this job during COVID so first time meeting his team.. he said they were out past 1am every night. Ummm? (Contd)

My partner hasn’t been feeling well over the last couple days. Nothing severe, just slight malaise and fatigue. She told me she had contact with someone who was Covid positive but she’s in healthcare so that isn’t anything new. She was prepared. Today she was sent home from work and told to quarantine but has insisted on getting hugs and even coughed on me during one. We’ve been together for a LONG time. This is a pattern for when she gets sick but with possible Covid I expected more precaution
